Chance me please/ add to my college list [NY resident, 4.0 UW, 1520 SAT, Rank #1, for premed related major]

And Providence the Roddy for pre med. not NY but not far.

Dehydration is Binghamton not on your list? You’d attend tuition free and it has all of the majors you’ve expressed an interest in.

There are no scholarships for med school, so besides trying to go as cheaply as possible for undergrad, you’re going to have to save up a lot of money to pay for med school.

You need a Plan B in case you don’t have the money. The government appears to be phasing out student loans, so you can’t rely on loans.

Try to locate the cheapest undergrad experience that you will like.

You should be competitive for Macaulay Honors with your grades and SAT score. Most kids with your profile here are reaching for full-pay Ivies or a step below, ignoring the great deal Macaulay offers. Sophie Davis is also a good program, and I had several friends do the BS-MS through Brooklyn College/SUNY Downstate Med. Medical school is very difficult to get into, so securing a spot out of high school is a huge advantage.

Definitely look at Hofstra, as you should be a top student for them and I believe the med school is low or no cost through some arrangement with Northwell Health.

I would be very upfront about your pay-your-own-way situation, and reach out to schools’ admissions offices and ask about full scholarship options. The less competitive the school, the better your odds.

Consider osteopathic schools when you look at medical schools.

I suggested Miami of Ohio since it could be a full scholarship including food. Scholarships | Costs and Financial Aid | Miami University Scholarships | Costs and Financial Aid | Miami University

There is also a way at Barretts to combine scholarships to get a full ride.

Sounds like OP is inflexible to leave NYC or NY.

They are national merit - I’m assuming semi for now - so they have Tulsa and potentially Bama without even trying.

I’m not too keen of leaving NY since I would have to pay for board which would become much more expensive.

I would apply to more schools just the application fees are going to add up and I have to pay for them.

It looks like university of Tulsa covers tuition, room and board for national merit semi finalists.

If that’s the reason, then you’re in luck - given as I showed you above, Troy is a full rise, Tulsa is a full ride loaded with smart kids (25%+ of the class last I saw), Bama is 5 years free tuition and four years housing and yes you have to pay food but they give you $4K a year which should cover. And has McCullough pre med.

If cost is keeping you in NY, it shouldn’t. School, for you, is cheaper outside of NY.

If it’s something else, that’s different.

I believe the schools knowsstuff listed could be full ride? Pay for everything, I believe some of them pay travel costs too. Wouldn’t hurt to look at the links in that post.

Well
.unless you happen to be in the low percentage of medical school students who get accepted to a medical school with no tuition (e.g. NYU Medical School). But I surely would not count on that!

As noted, the landscape of federally funded Direct Loans has changed
IIRC, the max amount allowed including undergrad is $200,000.

@WayOutWestMom knows those details.

As a NM winner
Tulsa would be no cost (scholarship covers everything), and I believe Alabama wouldn’t cost anything if you use the additional scholarship and job earnings to cover food costs. Your scholarship would include room.

Do these scholarships cover all travel costs? These would be significant even from NYC.

@hellotheresir I am confident that you will be accepted to several CUNY schools even if you don’t get into Macauley. I would be surprised if you didn’t get accepted to Stony Brook as well, although that’s a long commute from NYC if you can’t afford to live in the dorms.

Have you reviewed the scholarships that are available to CUNY students aside from Macauley? Here’s a link to Hunter’s site, but many of the scholarships are not limited to Hunter. Scholarships | Hunter College

The student should be able to work over the summer to cover this. And can work during the academic year as well (up to 10 hours a week).

My niece did Sophie Davis BS/MD at City College where pre-med/med students have priority fir on campus dorms.

Definitely apply to Macaulay and include several CUNYs. Are you also applying to Sophie Davis? You definitely have a shot at both.
Then the STEM scholarship at SUNYs + federal loans + a part time job (during the school yea/full time during the Summer), should cover the rest.

Have you run the NPC to know for sure you wouldn’t qualify for financial aid? (It’s not that common for financially successful parents who can be full pay to refuse to pay anything. Much more common are parents who have a budget -30k, 50k
- or whose financial situation they don’t want to divulge.)

What’s your senior schedule like?
Whatever you’re taking, make SURE it includes Spanish 3, English, Math, and a science. (+ Preferably a social science or history).

Macauley and Sophie Davis are excellent options and will provide everything OP needs for a Bachelor’s degree.

OP- if you have reasons for NOT being in NYC and want other options let us know. But many posters here do not understand how many resources would be available to you at CUNY. And travel costs will add up at Thanksgiving and Christmas (travel to Tulsa can get expensive since as far as I recall, the only direct flights are American Airlines from LGA and they have a near monopoly!)

I think the commute to Stonybrook is a dealbreaker- long and painful.

But let us know if you want “out of town options” or not. Congrats on such a fine record!

The STEM scholarship is also for CUNY.

Commuting to SUNY/CUNY
with this scholarship + the allowed student loan + a part time job
should make college affordable for this student.

I think going away to school is more unrealistic, unless there is something I am not aware of.

OP are you comfortable clarifying, do you live in NYC or somewhere else in NY?
