OP stay confident.
Several hundred if not thousands of current VT students were previously on the WL. That to me suggests they weren’t rejected, they were accepted, and that is a fact not an opinion. Fingers crossed.

OP - there was a still a possible opportunity for admission. Just not now, and maybe not later. But that is not known yet. The only true rejection is a rejection. It might happen down the road, but it has NOT happened now. Please stay positive and send a LOCI .
does a LOCI really help in this case? VT is top choice for us as well and we’re on the waitlist for business. Would we send a LOCI to our AO?
Communicating that VT is your top choice should help. It gives comfort that when accepted off the WL you will matriculate and help protect yield.
I would strongly encourage you to send one and or update them if you have any relevant achievements worth highlighting
In a LOCI, also include any additional worthwhile achievements or awards that you have received since your application was sent.
I wrote about my neighbor’s son experience getting off the VT waitlist on the VT waitlist thread. Stay positive, write the LOCI, reiterate the aspects that make the school a perfect fit for you, how you will contribute to the school, that it’s your number 1 choice, add in your mid year grades if they are competitive, talk about anything you are currently involved in that is not on your application. They absolutely take people off the waitlist. We are rooting for you!
And in case you are wondering my neighbor’s son that got off the waitlist major was also architecture!
Aw that makes me very happy to hear! I heard vt architecture waitlist is nearly impossible to get off of because of the low acceptance rate and high yield. But that gives me a little bit of hope!
I know vt does not want a letter of continued interest and does not rank waitlist. But do you know if acceptances are completely random (by major of course) or will my application be reviewed again?
Thanks again, and I’m glad to hear they got in!
Well…if you have found this out, then of course don’t send one. But maybe speak to your school counselor and see if they allow updates for significant achievements that were not on your application. This is something the school counselor can handle.
Sometimes when a legacy kid is not admitted to a top school, a deferral or WL may be seen as a delicate denial. These schools want their alums to continue to donate , even if these schools do not want to admit their offspring. But that is a very different circumstance from a WL at many other schools, and those with experience and knowledge of the nuances of the admissions process understand the difference.
That I honestly don’t know. I can ask him when he gets home from vacation next week.
What’s the verdict here? Good to write an LOCI or not?
Love Miami. Big Congratulations!
Clarifying questions -
Did you apply test optional to all schools that allowed for that? Did you also apply into architecture for all schools that allowed for that? This will help me determine your waitlist chances.
A wait list result should be considered a reach or high reach for admission.
Great way to describe it!
Certainly not a rejection but a “reach” probability that needs to be considered versus the schools historic use of wait lists. Thankfully it appears VT often tends to draw on such lists.
VT had to be careful this application cycle as VT experienced a higher than expected yield recently which led to serious housing issues.
I cannot assess your chances for either school, but it is good that you are excited about your acceptances. (Somewhat surprised that you received a scholarship from Minnesota based on your numbers. Is it a merit based scholarship ? Regardless, congratulations !)
Also surprised that you did not receive a scholarship from Auburn as your numbers qualify you for–to the best of my knowledge–an automatic award.
That is true, also true that VaTech took no one off the wait list last year. UVA usually doesn’t take many off the waitlist but took several hundred last year. Best to mentally move on to other options and be pleasantly surprised if a wait list comes through.
Looks like OP might have left amongst all our craziness. Feel like this might have been a solid test optional case study with tests that are borderline for the more difficult schools. Moving on.
I don’t think anyone can chance you regarding getting off the waitlist. At VT, there have been years when many kids have gotten an offer off the WL and other years when no one has made it off the waitlist. Personally, I’d suggest getting excited about the schools that have accepted you and put the waitlists out of your mind - if you are accepted off the WL later on, you can consider it then.
