You also need to know that if you attend a UC, you don’t get the benefit of getting into their med school programs if they have one. Berkeley doesn’t have a med school. UCLA and the other UCs wipe the slate clean for their med schools. They want to see what other schools are doing and how those schools are preparing their students.
If your intent was to get accepted into a UC med school because you attended an undergrad UC, that’s not going to work to your benefit. Coming from a Washington school would be a better bet.
California has one of the highest rates of “premeds” at their undergraduate schools. Every other student is “premed”. It’s ironic because there is no such thing as a premed major.
You can major in anything that you want to major in. I would caution you not to major In biology because postgraduate work options are limited in biology. The pay isn’t good, if med school doesn’t work out.
We paid for our daughter’s med school fees at University California, San Francisco about $240,000. Most of my daughter’s dormmates were paying for their medical school costs through loans, loans, and more loans.
So let me get this right: your parents are willing to pay $75k a year ($300k) For your undergraduate studies in California, correct? And they’re willing to pay another $300K for med school in California correct?
So if you’re lucky enough to get into a med school program, your parents will be willing to spending more than $600 K for your education?
