Chance Me? (SOMEWHAT UNIQUE CASE)

@midwestbandie yeah i’m studying and practicing like crazy for the ACT, currently hoping to score a cumulative 30 maybe? I’ve only taken the ACT once (the one listed). And I’ve seen a couple of other forums, notably the class of 2018 umich regular admissions one with over 300 posts on it, and UMich’s admission seemed pretty random in terms of people’s GPA/ACT scores, where some people with stellar scores didn’t get in or got waitlisted. A lot of what I read also said that they think the admissions just look at the scores and GPA because they got in with not-so-hot essays, but this confused me because everywhere I see UMich admissions process they say it is “holistic”; how confusing.

@wayneandgarth i feel i’ve seen your username on other UMich forums, not 100% sure. And, yes, I am applying to MSU (and IU Bloomington) just in case i don’t get into UMich.

@productrule hello, fellow non-stereotypical asian! For my essays, I’m pretty much elaborating on my story of this year with my mom’s loss and my move to michigan, also how it inspired my desire to stud in the medical field. They’re being reviewed with a fine-toothed comb. I also incorporated a little wit into them, but not trying to overdo it; i read on some sites that putting a little bit of smart wit into the essays will make the essays more enjoyable and prominent to the admissions office. And i’m trying really hard to get my GPA up, since UMich seems to consider GPA more than test scores.
