Chance Me? UF, GA Tech, NYU, Emory and Georgetown. Will Chance Back!

@Gator88NE‌ Thank you for he abundant information I definitely appreciate it. My plan is to go to medical school after graduating. My parents really don’t want me to apply to UCF or USF (all they care about is prestige). However with bright futures and all if I do get accepted to UF I believe it’s something my family can handle. Also for Emory and Georgetown I am applying for Biochemistry. Do you have any information on how competitive is getting into Biochemistry at Georgetown? In fact does anyone know and how it compares to the avg acceptance rate?

Bump

I would recommend posting a message on the Georgetown and Emory forums. I really don’t know if either university even takes your major into account (UF doesn’t for example). It is easier to get accepted to Emory’s Oxford campus, so you may want to look into that option.

Do some research on Med Schools strategies on CC. You’ll find a few common threads…

One of which is keep your cost/debt down to a minimum. Med Schools are expensive, you don’t want to rack up debt getting your BS, when the MD is your goal.

This is one reason that UCF, USF and UF are appealing for in-state students. Very low tuition rates combined with Bright Futures (about $3K a year)…

All three also have medical schools, which means it’s easier finding medical related EC’s, something you’ll need for your med school apps.

UCF and USF will also award you merit scholarships (if you apply in the next month or so, it’s given on a first come first serve basis). This helps reduce any student loans you may have to take. Both schools also have honor programs and programs that link to the medical schools.

Cost at UF, UCF and USF are between $19K to $20K a year (Tuition, room and board, books, etc.) UF is slightly less than the other two. However, while UCF and USF will award some merit ($1K to $4K a year), UF will likely not. UF will do better on “need” based aid. Run the “Net Price Calculator” for each of your targeted schools (GT, Emory, etc…) to get a sense of your cost.

Good Luck!
