Edit/update to the above: as you do freelance, definitely bring that up as an extra-curricular that demonstrates your skill and abilities. Should help your application significantly. Finally, as an URM you should consider filling out the optional diversity essay explaining how your experience as a URM can contribute to the overall diversity on campus (or choose another angle that’s appropriate to your experience).
