Chance me?

I’m looking at Rice and at the present moment I have only taken my SAT I and SAT IIs once and without any preparation. I am a white male going to a public high school in Texas.

Here are my academics:
Unweighted GPA: 4.00
Weighted GPA: 4.75
Class rank: 1/778

Test Scores:
SAT: 2030
Reading: 640
Math: 670
Writing: 720
Subject tests:
Math 2: 690
Physics: 690
Chemistry: 670

Senior year schedule: AP calculus, AP physics II and III, AP biology, AP Government, AP Economics, AP English Literature, AP German 4, AP European History

Extracurricular Activities:
Varsity Soccer
Select Soccer
National Honor Society
German National Honor Society
Active Eagle Scout - (hundreds of service hours)

I intend to take a class for the SAT and to study for the subject tests next time. I did take AP classes in the subjects.

Quick suggestion:

Get those SAT scores up (esp the Subject tests)!!! At first I was like wow this kid looks pretty good (1/778 etc.) and then I hit those and it kind of made me less impressed with you #1 rank. I know that might not actually mean anything but I think adcoms will see you as being 1st only because you go to an easy school (not saying that you actually do!) because you don’t show your smarts in your Subject Tests. I’m sure you are a smart kid but get those scores up or adcoms won’t see really see that!! Esp Math 2 (realistically should be at an 800 because of its curve)!

Good Luck :)!!!

Chance me back?

Yeah I thought my subject tests were pretty low. The people below me in class rank have gotten 800s and high 700s on theirs. They also studied so I’m hoping that is the main reason for my performance.

*Study!!! You’re retaking, right?

Never mind…see that you are :)

Kensoccer, I bet that you can easily jump into the 700’s on your subject tests, after you take a few practice tests and flip through a prep book or two. But from what I can see – and like the rest of us here, I’m not an admissions officer – scores are just part of what Rice cares about. It takes a lot of dedication to be first in your class, play varsity soccer, commit lots of time to service projects, etc. Shine in your essays and keep doing what you’re doing! And find a little time for lemonade and nice breezes!
