My point is you asked - right or wrong people answered and I personally think in a balanced way.
One thing to look at - Purdue as an example. You can’t get BME until after first year. Is that what your student wants ? A tough to get into non direct admit major vs a direct admit school ? Something to think about with any non direct admit school on the list. It’s very possible due goes and cannot study what she wants.
My son turned down Purdue for Alabama. I was stunned. He told me rank was for parents abd to sell magazines. Companies don’t care. He works with kids ftom Michigan to Western Michigan, Auburn to Akron, Case Western to Colorado State. He was right. They all make the same. He had 19 interviews and five offers by Xmas with a 6th in the spring. What matters is ABET accreditation - which is why, forgetting legacy, UND may not be the right school given her career focus. Companies actually ask for it in job listings.
All you can do is apply to a balanced list.
Because she has safeties, you needn’t worry.
She’ll likely do just as well from stony Brook as UND - that’s the reality - no different than my son.
Ye, you named a couple schools where she’ll likely do better outcome wise but only a few and in most cases, her success will come based on her effort in selling herself.
Good luck.
