Chance my son for Comp Sci: CA resident, strong academics (4.7 GPA, 1560 SAT), medium extracurriculars, no major awards/competition wins [4.0 unweighted GPA, 4.0/4.33/4.83 for UC, <$70k]

No - he wont qualify for need based aid. thanks

Then unfortunately Stanford and CMU will have to come off his list. And probably UMich as well.

But that’s ok because you have plenty of other great options.

Warm, large, $70K and urban/semi urban - SDSU, Arizona, and Arizona State speak to me in addition to UCLA.

UF is another to look at too.

Penn State (rural), Ohio State (cold), UMass - ehhh -let’s say suburban and cold - don’t fit.

UMD may work. UNC too or NC State.

You could cull the list.

And unless you have need - no reason to apply to Stanford or CMU (not warm).

thank you

Thank you . He has UMD on his list. Thanks for pointing out UF - will check it out. Thanks

Hopkins ?? Its CS is not as highly-ranked as some of the schools on your list, but offers excellence in the related field of bioengineering, and of course its medical school, which might offer research opportunities to hone and use his computer skills.

wow didnt think about that - Thanks for mentioning it. Will definitely look into it. Thank you

If in CA, I would think Cal Poly Pomona and perhaps Cal Poly Humboldt should be added to the mix. Easy apps and they don’t look at ECs. SLO for a reach. All super easy apps—no essays, no letters.

Thank you. Will do.
