bottom line it - schools want to protect their yield rate. what is a yield rate you ask? of the number accepted how many will end up attending. yield rate is somethign that rankings use quite often, as well as something that students use to see how good the school is - of kids who got in, who actually wanted to go?

also, if they accept more people ed then it would stand to reason that overall admission rate would go down, as there are less spots for the increasing number of applicants in the rd round, which is also what a school wants as it does help in the rankings and what not (not to say that CMC goes out of their way to move up, but if they can while still letting in quallified kids why the hell not)

ergo, it would stand to reason that your chances of admission would increase, especially at smaller schools that are so big on demonstrated interested, if you applied ED.

the only reason to not apply ED is if you kno that the school is not your top choice or if money is an issue. Conversely, if you know the school is your top choice there is only one good reason money - even though CMC is notorius for being fabulous with aid money, you probably shouldnt take the chance that you should not apply ED. if youd go anyway, why not do it earlier, avoid all otehr applications and get into your top choice?

so if money is not an issue for you adn you kno CMC is your first choice, apply ED.
