I know it keeps being mentioned that race is not a factor in admissions, but UCI and UCSB have been given awards for being Hispanic serving institutions. These schools are doing more to help underserved minorities gain admission. Your family background makes you a unique applicant. Pepperdine is a great school. They have excellent prehealth advisors. They paid my entire tuition when I was an there because I had good stats and came from a poor family/1st gen college student, even though I was not a URM. The campus is very isolated much like ucsc, so that can be a bummer.
