Your chances are really good - especially if you apply early as stated above. If you are hoping for merit aid, however, you’d definitely need to get that SAT score up and then I wouldn’t recommend applying early. I don’t think they give out merit aid during the early decision rounds (although need base should be the same.) The key to GW, as I’ve found over the last 2 years researching it, is to demonstrate interest and show how you will fit within the GW community. The “Why GW” essay is VERY important and don’t just talk about how much you love DC, talk about how being at GW within the city is important to you. If you haven’t visited yet, definitely do and ask to sit in on a class - that’s very helpful when writing your essay. Also, we found Twitter to be a gold mine if info. Follow the Dean of Student Affairs as well as a couple of on campus organizations you might be interested in joining. Then you can use info that’t you’ve learned from there to add to you essays and sound like you have really researched. Let them know how you will be an asset to them. Here’s a couple of links to articles that were written about the decision making process at GW specifically. They really give you a bird’s eye view into what goes into their process. Good Luck!
