Chances from Community College

If you take ANY courses after HS, you will NOT be applying to USC as a freshman, but as a transfer student. Our D went to CC and was the 1st from that CC to be apply & be accepted as a transfer. She communicated regularly with the USC admissions person assigned to her area of the country, so she could take courses at CC that would likely be accepted for transfer credit (only one course wasn’t & it was one she took before conferring with the USC admissions person).

Like you, her HS GPA wasn’t as good as she would have wished, but it was due to chronic health issues. She did score well on the SAT and also got a perfect score on the GED exam, which likely improved her chances. She applied as a sociology major, but shortly after admission switched to undecided.

The HS counselor advised her to wait until after she had 2 years of CC to apply, but she applied after getting her 1st semester grades from CC (she got 3.8). She was admitted as a spring admit (after she completed 3 semesters of CC). It worked well for her, but she was NOT a freshman admit. She was a 2nd semester sophomore.

S took a college course at 15 and lots of APs, but NO college courses until he started at USC. He was admitted as a freshman with 60 credits from all the APs and college course, but not as a transfer since he never attended any U after he graduated HS. He was a freshman admit with JR standing (by credits), and allowed to register earlier.
