You were probably thinking of a Presidential nomination, which isn’t limited only to children of graduates. It’s for children of anyone who has served in the Armed Forces. The guidelines are for a minimum of 8 years, but it’s a bit trickier than that (reserve time, etc.) from what I’ve been told. But the parent wouldn’t have to be an academy grad, or even an officer, or even from that branch of service. If anyone thinks they may qualify, they could look into the specific requirements.

The Presidential nomination is for children of CAREER military members, not those who have xsimply served a minimum of eight years. A minimum of eight years active duty AND still on active duty, or retired. A minimum of 2880 reserve points AND still in the reserves, or retired. The on-line catalog, when and if it is ever published, has the exact requirements.</p>
