I would say that class rank can be important because it lets the admissions committee know where you stand in your high school class compared to your classmates.

That blows… My class rank is being depleated by being in band which has less quality points than an AP class… But i love music, and my rank isn’t THAT bad, so hopefully the pro’s will even out the cons and there will be no issues surrounding my rank. Does anyone else share this problem? It may be kinda unique to my schools quality point system, but I’m not sure if this is often the case or not.

I just hope they take that into consideration when looking at my class rank.

they make a wholistic evaluation. If you’re rank 80 out of 600 but you have a really good 3.8 GPA and your rank is because you’re in band…they’ll understand. The beauty of cornell admissions is it’s not an completely mathematical and statistical formula. Many many people are qualified, so not being in the top 10, or having a 1500+, or a 3.9+ GPA, isn’t an issue as much as being generic is. Applicants need to stand out.

Thanks Sparty, always a calming voice haha.
