Agree with the posts of other docs above. Epic is incredibly cumbersome and expensive. SO many clicks for each screen and need for massive customization. If the hospital is no longer paying for it for a private practice then there is no reason to choose it. ECW and other system designed for private practices make much more sense for the doctors and their staff.
I see MDs in several different health systems. All of them are in EPIC, with all it’s quirks. I for one am happy and relieved that they can view each other’s records. I believe Stanford has it’s own system, so they have to be sent records since their system is different. That is currently the only health system I have to send things to because it isn’t easily viewable on EPIC.
What does this mean?
This doctors office is still part of the same hospital system, and doctors group. The only change is they are switching EMR platforms.
Stanford uses Epic. I work in a different healthcare system and can access Stanford records via the Epic “Care Everywhere” function.
Healthcare companies now often use fax software, so there’s a lot less faxing of actual paper.
