Cheer me up!

I walk by a pet store every week where they have puppies in the window. Sometimes I go in and play with them. Talk about pure, unadulterated delight. It’s just like being a little kid again. They are enough to make me believe in God, and I’ve been an atheist my entire life.

Aibarr- stunning post #15.
Emerald, I am a fan of David Sedaris, in spurts, and while I do laugh out loud. his outlook is quite jaded and this might not be the uplift you need.

Have you seen the movie “An Education”- well made, engaging gem, and might prove a little get away, escape for you.
I am “hooked” by Dec’s CC book selection, The Thirteenth Tale, can’t put it down. You might like that one.

With a medical diagnosis, you will feel better! Hang in there.

Search Benny Lava on youtube. It just cracks me up!

The puppy comment reminded me that there were a few exam periods in college when friends and I were totally (totally) stressed. We walked to the University’s hospital and looked at the newborns. Talk about bringing a smile to your face. (And right before my very first ever exam period, the University showed It’s a Wonderful Life. I’d never seen it before. Seems a little cheesy now that I’ve seen it 20 times, but that first time boy did it lend some perspective.)

Youtube: search Centraal Station Antwerpen gaat uit zijn dak! You will be cured. Of course, with friends like aibarr, you’re probably cured already…

Just the thought of the smell (the good smell, that is) of puppies make me smile.

And I know this makes some people jump for joy and some groan, but our soft rock radio station switched to all-holiday music this morning at 8:00 AM. Always puts me in a good mood.

emeraldkity4, here’s some virtual cookies to help cheer you up!

Aibarr - great list!

So many things that struck a chord with me - so EK, what would your list look like???

aibarr #15 That is great , I really appreciate all those wonderful reminders
but* Having the laundry all done*
Is that even possible? ;)

I love all the suggestions- and I would like to think that I am normally pretty positive person- it’s just that the regular things don’t work anymore-which is really scary. My father died ( suicide) when he was ten years younger than I am now, and the only thing keeping me going is not wanting to continue that legacy for my own kids.

If I still feel like this on Monday, I will ask my Dr to put me in the hospital, but from past experience, I know that nothing happens in the hospital on the weekends ( no therapy groups etc), and digging in my yard is more therapeutic than reading the old magazines they have lying around.

Just the thought of the smell (the good smell, that is) of puppies make me smile.

When my ( then) eight yr old daughter was having a hard time, I would tell her to smell her sisters head ( she was a baby), she thought I was crazy!
:)

aibarr-I love your post.

Emerald-Think of all your friends on cc and the good thoughts coming your way and hopefully that should cheer you up. I also find that I usually find at least one really funny post on cc every day. Hope your spirits rise.

for a smile

;)

poor puppy-and I assume that was his momma who didn’t even notice!

When I was feeling a little more miserable than usual last week, I went on HULU and watched the funniest woman on the planet, Amy Sedaris in “Strangers with Candy” reruns. (John Colbert is in them too!)
ALWAYS does the trick.
Thanksgiving with the Sedaris family… can you imagine?

Amy’s book “I Like You” on “hospitality” is a real hoot as well.

I have an extensive library of dvd’s that are overwhelmingly comedy. I like a funny series better than a movie, because that can last a really long time. Treat yourself to a set of something. Nothing shifts my mood faster than laughter, but sometimes it’s hard to come by. And by the way, I loooove David Sedaris so I think we must share the same humor. Here are some of my favorites, in no particular order:

Curb Your Enthusiasm
Arrested Development
30 Rock
The Office
The Mary Tyler Moore Show
Seinfeld
Bob Newhart
The Odd Couple
Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist.

That last one was an old animated show from comedy central and it features lots of great comedians playing the role of a Dr. Katz patient, and he has this completely ridiculous grown son named Ben. You won’t regret watching this because they’re all really quick witted and funny.

Movies:

What about Bob?
Funny Farm
The Philadelphia Story
Manhattan Murder Mystery
Tremors
Anchorman

Have you listened to David Sedaris Live at Carnegie Hall? That CD is probably the funniest thing I own, so if you haven’t heard it then you’ve just got to find it and listen.
If you have, then you’ll appreciate,

“What’s the matter Lisa? Gettin’ too fat–I mean hot?”

Also, I spent most of last year feeling like a crazy woman with tremendous anxiety, mood swings, and incredibly low energy. I saw various doctors, had various tests, and nothing came of it. I feel much better this year, and that kind of confirms my theory that something was definitely out of wack. The hormones can just wreak havoc on your emotional state. Hang in there.

Watch “White and Nerdy” on You-Tube.

Read *The Onion *on line.

I love Wierd Al, I already have that on my ipod
Go Donny!

Of course, Donny’s nerdy dancing is better than me at my best dancing!
