Chemistry 3BL

When does the exam exactly begin? On the bspace handout it says 7-8 but then a little further down it says “Please sit in alternate seats as directed by the proctors. The exam will begin promptly at 6:00 pm and end at 7:30 pm.”

^
I’m pretty sure he said… 7-8 during class… Argh. i hope it’s 7-8

7-8 my GSI just emailed us

Alright thanks.

can someone tell me how the percent yield/recovery questions work? other than just telling me the answer…

… meta coupling? really? ugh.

and what did you guys put for chromatography methods

*** was that?! Not like it was hard, but definitely more challenging than the practice finals. I think I put SiO2 for first, size or affinity for second (cant remember) and C8 for the last. Wait so what did the tree look like and ratios? So lost T-T I am so used to having them tell me the couplings. When all it said was H_A I was like…***?

Yeah I was totally convinced they just screwed up but someone asked a GSI and they said something about meta coupling? Like it couples with the meta H so its a doublet-doublet maybe? I just put down 1 doublet -__-

And yeah I put SiO2, size, C8… I don’t know if size works for molecules that don’t weigh like >5000g/mol though.

…yeah me too -__- ****!

I call BS on Viernes and he better lower the cutoff.

i knoww. the saddest part is that i bet like half the people who had no idea put down 4 peaks… doublet of doublets? and got it right

when the hell did we learn meta coupling…it’s not even in the book. i was thinking about it on the test, but then thought it wouldn’t happen so i just drew a doublet. laaaame

and on the last page: sio2, ion exchange, ion exchange. ? :(

i thought the size had to be like 30000 or really long vs really small…

I thought ion exchange only worked if you were separating things with NH2 from things with OHs? I really don’t know. But I don’t think it’s size exclusion either…

I think most people who understood splitting tree got it wrong as opposed to people who don’t and probably got it right as they just see numbers and split away inadvertently leading them to the right answer.

Yeah I think it might have been affinity. -_-’ UGH!

did he ever talk about that in lecture?? this is so frustrating… I guess I will just hope for an A- in lab now :(

i only needed 16 points on this damn exam for an A. I NEED 16 ****** POINTS. >:(

I was hopping for a 28/38 for a flat A, but now I’m okay with 15 points to get an A-…this is reminding me of 3AL =(

We learned meta coupling in the second NMR lecture. It was a doublet/doublet/doublet, 6:2:2.

I put SiO2, Ion Exchange, C8.

What was the relative order of ppm?

I don’t even have notes on that. dubta tee eff. i’ve been to every lecture too…
doh. ppm iirc was like 54123 for me.
