Cheney Shoots Fellow Hunter!

For the youngsters who may think that the Bush-Cheney issues are new, LFWB (post 55) was referring the Ted Kennedy’s personal tragedy in July, 1969 when he drove off a Chappaquiddick bridge and passenger Mary Jo Kopechne died. It was late, the area remote, friends couldn’t do proper search and authorities not called until the next day. It is also why Carter and then Reagan were elected, and not another Kennedy.

Despite wishful thinking on the part of the American electorate, politicians are human and fallible, too! They are held to a higher standard, as Clinton found out as well. Yet, virtually all elected officials really do come to serve the Republic and its people be they from Red or Blue States. We differ, however, on how best to do that. Hysterical posturing does not serve the greater good. 'Nuff said.

Well, I’ll go with most of the last post. However, I think the biggest reason Ted didn’t run for President is to save himself from the same fate as his two brothers.

Actually Ted did give it a shot but failed to get the party’s nomination. He lost to Jimmy Carter in 1980.

shogun,

I recall that in the early polls Teddy was doing well against Jimmy Carter. However, after the Iranian revolution and the hostages were taken, party loyalty shifted back to the incumbent and Carter was easily nominated again.

Or go to a park with Hillary! :D
