I’m pretty certain Chicago has gone past the 15th in the more-or-less recent past. Who knows what will happen this year; they’re under new management. But don’t pin your hopes on any hard and fast rule about the 15th, because there is no hard and fast rule.

neogop, I wish I could have your confidence. I would be so relieved to just get deferred, because I want to show Chicago by stellar grades this semester.

Who knows how many people have applied EA this year? and Internationals? I am quite worried that the acceptance rate will drop by 10 percent at least…

They received 5855 EA applications.

ahh this waiting is so nerve racking
I don’t think I could stand if they sent their decision after December 15

Ah 5855 EA applications. It’s weird to think that all my essays/information is in there.

What are you all doing to occupy your time? I mean during the week it gets easier with schoolwork and all but waking up this morning and realizing that letters would get here in 10 days made me a little obsessed.

Well I have three term papers due this upcoming week and one more due the next week, so I’ve got plenty to do. Surprisingly I haven’t been as anxious about finding out as I thought I’d be.

Right there with you Secret Asian Man. Kitkatie, how do you know who the person reading your rec is? Is that just your regional admissions counselor?

I have midterms to keep me occupied, but I’m definitely really anxious!

I can hardly wait! Approximately one more week!

@alfassa

Yeah, she’s my regional rep. She said that she reads our apps first, then takes them to the committee and argues for our admission. When she visited our school, she made a big deal about having each of us fill out cards and then, if you talked to her, she gave you a star. If you had something interesting to say, you got another star. I got about 4-5 stars (most people got one for asking a question). And this guy who’s applying EA w/UChicago as his first choice left really quickly, so I got to tell her that he was obsessed with the school (since frosh year)- he got a ton of stars, too. :-)

So, I’m hoping those cards are included in our application, and that she remembers me! I talked to her for a good 5 minutes. And she was nice!

I take college classes, and my finals are this week, so i have plenty to keep me busy! That combined with all my other applications and my lab work (gotta prep my DNA)… and casting my one act play. Yeah, I’m an overachiever. And the next two weeks are going to be NUTS! :-)

Ahh,can’t wait!Even though I felt I’d be deferred anyway…But getting immersed in preparation for quizes and tests helps!lol
5855 applications…Wow

we internationals have been placed at such disadvantageous position…never met the counselor, no interviews, no need-blind policy…and never heard about the star thing kitkatkatie told about!

@dawncoming: Yeah, that’s true.~But don’t worry,I think the AO’s realize that we don’t have those sorta ‘fancy’ jazz, and therefore we’re gonna “compete” within the Intl. pool? Hm~ But the interviews~I was lucky to have one alumnus around in the city.Did you not have one?

Good luck!!..and I realized I probably again failed to get an 800 on SATI Math><T T

@GatitaZ: how lucky you are! Shanghai’s quite a big city, while my place is just a big village. No alumni wants to come, i suppose…no 800 on SAT math? I suppose you guys there always get 800! But scores are not so important as interviews, and you’ve got one…how I envy you! :P

PS:do you know anything about international admission rates , or something like that?I am sooo nervous that i have nightmares almost every night…

GatitaZ: You got an interview? did you have to specifically request one though? I could have gotten one in Shanghai too but I guess I didn’t know to specifically request one lol are interviews THAT important (even more important than SAT scores, according to dawncoming???)??

@dawncoming: Aww,I guess I am lucky,hm.I’m sorry to know that you’re having nightmares!OMG!Don’t be!I understand that it is likely to be your very favorite school, yet worrying about it doesn’t help you either.Relax,my friend~Unfortunately,I don’t really know about the intl. admission rate~>_<~,and I only see the percentage of intl. enrolled last year is 10% as you can probably find it on the webpage.(I’m being hypocritical because stressing and logging in my U Chicago account have become part of my rountine…Gosh!)Well, don’t worry about the interview, then!Because my interviewer told me all he could and need do was to write up more about me through our conversation ,which is definitely far from being essential for the admission decision on me.Interview is,I think, simply one extra way for you to know better about the school…To put it more clearly,I don’t think that I performed superbly well or badly, which probably won’t affect that much at all…Also,if you think it this way, since no alumni are around in your area, nobody else from your area will get a chance for interview, who is applying to Chicago and therefore might be object for comparison during your admission process!Does that sound better?

@oceanangel: Yup,we actually need to request interviews after our Chicago accounts were created.Aww,well, sorry that you didn’t know how to.But in my opinion, nope.Interviews aren’t THAT important…They’re not decisive anyway. As for compared with SATs, I’m not really sure…I thought the process of evaluation is holistic,so one factor should not matter too much?Yet again, looking at last year’s EA decision thread,I found out most of those admitted had rather high SATs.Hm…which I do not have.lol
Ahah~Now I just keep my fingers crossed~and hope things go alright…I’ll prolly get deferred, but oh well.I tried.

GatitaZ: phew I hope interviews aren’t too important haha Hmm well I wouldn’t base the average accepted SAT range on the CC threads LOL The ones on these boards tend to be…higher than average haha, so I wouldn’t worry too much >.<

I was also able to arrange an interview. Though it was in Warsaw, so I had to spend 5 hours just to get there.

As for admission rate for international students, as fat as I remember it was about 18% last year overall (EA+RD).

oceanangel:Aha~Thnx!Good call!I shall relax!^^Phew!

Kvasek: oh wow…FIVE hours to get to an interview!but I guess I would also have done that if I were you. Good luck!^^ Thank you for the intl. admission rate! slightly lower than the domestic one?!..Interesting…but not particularly in a good way…lol!
