Chicago's Model UN College Team Featured in NYT

Hm, I’m not part of the team myself but I knew quite a few of the members and I’ve never heard of somebody being “recruited” in the same manner as athletes are in other schools. In fact, the team prides itself in being able to take in inexperienced debaters and shaping them into quality MUn-ers through rigorous training. Of course there’s also kids that devoted their lives to MUN in high school, but my sense is that they head straight to the team offices during Orientation Week rather than being recruited beforehand. There’s also the fact that everybody, even those high school veterans, need to go through a try out process.

Again, I’m not actually part of the team, so maybe there is some sort of process like the one Cue7 described through which admitted students are contacted by the team that I’m not aware of. Even that seems a little hard to be believe, though, given that the team is not exactly the MUN darling of the administration (that would be MUNUC, the RSO in charge of the high school conference) and I’m not sure how much access they would be granted to the admitted students files. What I could see happening is the team finding out about the student’s presence on campus once classes start and then trying to convince them to join.
