Choosing between a full athletic scholarship at BC or Ivy League schools

Again, I have NO idea what the link was meant to clarify. If it was meant to point out to http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/197150/zach-allen … that is more wrong upon previous wrongs.

If there is something to be made clear by posting a link, why not make it less nebulous? Nothing of the above changes anything to the timing of the summer commitment to BC and the LOI signature today. This is not very complicated.

Try the link again (hint- look carefully at the commitment dates)

Twoin: i was just clarifying for the previous posters that this kid appears to have NFL dreams and at least a shot at playing so telling him to just take that off the table is likely not welcome advice. This is not a 10yr playing low level hockey so not sure I follow your point there.

It seems he went for the better football school. Good luck to him! Hope he does great!

I just got home from a long day of work and just caught up on all posts.

Yes, my son chose Boston College…

Last night he spoke to coaches from all four schools. His conclusion was that it would be best to choose BC and then if not happy after year one, transfer to one of the Ivies. By doing this he would not have to sit out a year before being eligible to play which is the restriction if you reversed this situation.

I was so proud of my son as he negotiated a great fallback plan. All three Ivy coaches committed to embrace his future transfer if he maintained grades of no less than B’s in every class.

I was pulling for Penn (Wharton) or Harvard, but I guess women simply have more power in this world as my wife pulled for BC. Women rule and men drool…

One fact that I was hestitant to provide was that my wife is part of a long Princeton legacy. Oddly enough, she believes Princeton has changed much over the years and has become too elitist in attitude. I am a lowly Penn State grad and always dreamed he would play for JoePa. But, tragically, that ship has sailed…

Looks like several of you identified my son on recruiting websites. Since my son verbally committed to BC in the summer, the recruiting websites basically stopped updating offers. So, they all have different data and only have the facts listed.

I think all of you hit the nail on the head on several topics, but in the end it had to be a decision left to my son. He picked the school where he could best follow is biggest dream. What is the over/under that this time next year I’ll be posting another announcement regarding his transfer to the Ivies? Boy, I don’t want to even think about that…,

I hope the facts and opinions provided in this thread offers some help and insights for anyone facing similar dilemma in the future.

You all ROCK!!!

GO EAGLES!!!

Thanks again…

PS - next time you’re watching college football on national tv, keep an eye open for #19 middle linebacker in future BC football games

Need to correct one point - I meant to write the recruiting websites only have half the facts listed…

What a great plan! And he gets to keep his HS number!

This has been such an interesting thread. I’ve learned much about things I had no earthly idea of. BC football is very special. DH is good friends with Wake’s former football coach so we attended a couple of BC games when they played Wake. My younger son at one point was very interested in BC. Solid academics and amazing school spirit. Good luck to your son! He sounds like an amazing young man.

Congratulations! I watched signing day reports yesterday for Vanderbilt and it’s so exciting to see these young athletes commit to their schools. I wish your son the best at BC.

Congrats on making the decision. Good luck to your son and I wish him an injury free college career and NFL future if that’s what he wants.

Now I’ll have someone to follow.

OP, sounds like you’ve raised an amazing kid…and you and your wife are great parents too…love when everything works out like this…

Congratulations from someone that had the same choices/decisions to make in another sport - you made the right one! Someone has to go for their dreams! My S hits the pros this year and it has been the best four years ever. Dreams can come true - here’s to the future for the dreamers!

Yes, congratulations to you and your son. I know it was a big decision, but it’s nice that he was able to choose from among such great options. I look forward to seeing him on the playing field in the future. May he follow in our local boy Matt Ryan’s footsteps and have a long and successful NFL career!

Congratulations, Novaranger! I’m very happy for your son and your family. **Go Eagles! Soaring to Glory/b )

CADREAMIN, Congratulations to your son and family, too!

We know and love many BC grads, and they all loved their time there. One of D’s best friends played football four years (redshirted) and finished his graduate work while he played during his fifth year at BC. He says he lived an amazing dream. D had several friends who were athletes – they all speak very highly of their entire experience. We hope you hear this a lot over the next four years: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XN-ohMM_w0
