We did shopping for an 11 year old girl this year. Honestly, my family had more fun shopping for her than for each other! We had a nice list to go by (this kiddo even wanted a board game…we got the game of Life), so it was easy to shop. We added a fleece jacket and a winter scarf to match to the gifts we bought. Figured warm winter clothes are always appreciated!

Mominva - you are right, I do need to rethink assembly ahead of time. We have plenty of volunteers willing to help deliver so maybe I’ll designate a couple of “assemblers” and take the beds in pieces. Thanks for thinking of that, I was trying to minimize the time we interrupt their family but maybe we can keep the kids busy with Santa long enough to assemble once we arrive.

I am really looking forward to see the guys in our office dress up as elves…average age of our workforce is 51 - I’m curious to see what they come up with for costumes…kinda hoping tights aren’t involved.

If anyone is shopping for children’s books, there is a great list of suggestions you can download from here: http://bccb.lis.illinois.edu/GB2/2014GB2.html

I’ve been thinking about your Please give us an update!!

@txmom14 What a thoughtful thing you are doing. It will mean so much to the family.

Office adopted family update - we had an absolutely great time supporting this family. I took wise CC advice and did not fully assemble the bunk-beds before we arrived. We assigned everyone tasks prior to arriving at the adopted family’s house…two guys set up beds, others were assigned to make the beds in their cute matching bedding. Four were assigned to bring in the gifts for under the tree. We took Dad aside and gave him a box that had pre-filled stockings for everyone, plus the food and gas cards. The kids had a chance to talk (at length) with Santa - the parents were so grateful and lovely. It really made Christmas for everyone in our office to be able to participate in such a personal way.
Thanks for the update, Txmom.
This story is wonderful in every way.
Bravo. I can picture it all - sounds like a huge success. Kudos to you and the others for being so organized.
