My husband and son cut down a tree in our back yard today. You get what you pay for! ![]()
Looks beautiful and in the spirit of the season.
Awesome! ![]()
For a few years, we would cut down a Douglas fir out of the dense tree hedge we planted to shield our yard from the neighbors’ driveway. Just to thin it out. Or one of the “garbage” trees that sprouted in the back of our yard. They made awesome Christmas trees!
free and eco friendly.
We have 2 fake trees, both a hodgepodge of ornaments. the one in the living room is the main tree. In past years there were almost more ornaments than would fit. The family room tree used to have all of the girls’ ornaments on it. Now they’re both out with trees of their own, the ornaments are overflow from the main tree.
The 2nd tree is the repository for the Christmas white elephant gifts.
I tell my husband that my dream is a mainfloor closet where I can roll the fully-decorated trees after Christmas and roll them out after thanksgiving. Since I doubt we’ll ever downsize, that will remain a dream.
My brother’s family do this every year. (They are in NH and have lots of unbuilt land.) There trees are a bit bigger than yours, but just as airy. They’ve decided they prefer them that way.
That’s cool. We have three acres of woods. All shapes and sizes of trees. But none like the ones you buy!
We have a Balsam Hill Flip tree. It is so easy to set up and then it goes back into its bag and we roll it back to the corner of the garage. We have had it several years and got it in sale around Thanksgiving. We are another that have a fake tree because of my husband’s allergies. I like to put it up right after Thanksgiving and I don’t have to worry about it catching on fire. Our previous fake tree was hard to assemble and required a lot of bending the branches out, etc… and was ugly.
This is our hodgepodge tree. If you look closely you will see that we do have several ornaments honoring/remembering family beagles. It’s weird, but that’s us.
Happy Holidays to all!
I love remembering beagles! My Mom had a very silly beagle. I like that ornament near the bottom right that looks like a cameo. I’ve never seen anything like it.
We are clearly hodge-podge with a mix of ornaments from our alma maters and family vacations. (Delighted that D and SIL continue this tradition and get ornaments from travels together for their tree.)
We have real trees (frasier fir). H was a bit overzealous this year and got a tree that left no room for the star on top so I had to improvise.
A section of our real tree with our hodgepodge of ornaments and our sparkly tree topper. I also got a tree collar this year instead of a skirt- always wanted one but never could find one big enough for a real tree!
This made me laugh. It came up as a memory from 2019 which I think was the last year we had two trees…one of them a real tree. This is the real tree. The caption on FB said I put all the lights on the tree by myself for the first time in my life (wondering where my husband was!) anyway…this one is the hodgepodge with the ornaments we have collected over the years.
It was a small tree too!
This has been a wonderful thread! ![]()
@abasket - I love that sparkley topper!
I bought my Balsam Hill unlit. I figured I could change from color lights to white. I have had a few friends whose lights went out on their pre-lit trees after some years and it was a pain for them to cut the strands out.
Oh yes it was a pain to remove them. It took me several hours and a lot of choice words. I am glad I did it though. It’s a very nice tree. No need to throw it away. The last couple of years I kept the lights on it when I packed it up. But several strands are partially out again, so I may take the time to redo it before I packed it up. I believe I have somewhere around 15 strands on it now. I like lights AND ornaments!
We have one with mostly vintage ornaments, and one with ornaments we have collected as a family + ornaments that the kids made.
All of the posts were awesome and the trees were beautiful! Until next year!
