teri - do you think Bermuda would be too cold in late Dec? I would love to go there!

Another one that has come up in my research was Turks and Caicos…looks lovely. I wish there were more direct flights from the DC area to islands…would make it so much easier!

I don’t know for sure, but I would imagine that Bermuda would be too cold in late December. Gorgeous pink sand beaches, though. Also, kinda expensive, but definitely worth a visit. (In the summer)

Turks and Caicos is lovely. I think that’s the island where they have a statue of where John Glenn touched down from his space trip. Turks and Caicos is not yet built up to where many other islands are, so there could be less to do…but if you just want vegging out by the beach, that’s an awesome choice. A bit quieter.

We sort of escaped for Christmas for the first time ever last year and I loved it. I say sort of because we visited and stayed with both sets of grandparents in Florida. However since I’m the one that hosts XMAS and Eve, it was wonderful to not have to do that. I told all siblings that since we would be gone, I wouldn’t be buying gifts for their kids and the shouldn’t buy for mine. The stress level was so decreased, that I could do that all the time. You will love it.

I have 2 sons also…21 and 18. I think an all inclusive would be too boring without friends. I would say Puerto Rico. Beaches, get out and sightsee…old San Juan is fun.

You know how I feel, conmama! I have “done” both Christmas Eve and Day for years. I think I just need a break. Puerto Rico is pulling into the lead, as I just saw that there are nonstop flights from Dulles to San Juan. So…any resort suggestions for PR?

no point in even daydreaming. we can’t take vacay time from Thanksgiving thru New Years.

Just returning from our first trip at Christmas with our two college kids. Seven day cruise to the Caribbean. Fantastic!!! We did the eastern side. Warm. Sunny. Relaxing. Not that expensive and there was plenty to do for each of us. Separately and together.

We were there in late November, and I thought the weather was perfect. I’m guessing in December, you’d have highs in the 70s. You could be out by the pool and swim in pools that are heated. So it all depends on how warm you want it. That being said, any of the places suggested here on this thread that are in the continental U.S., could have a cold front come through and you’d have highs that wouldn’t get out of the 50s or 60s. If you want guaranteed warm, then I’d say the Caribbean or Mexico.

That Iceland trip sounds great!

Rom828’ what cruise line did you use? And those who went to Costa Rica, did you go on your own or book a tour/ all inclusive? Where did you go to get a good deal?

@Onward we sailed on the NCL Getaway and were treated so wonderfully. I would highly recommend it.

notteling- it was!

Rom…where did the boat depart from? We are thinking of something like this…but we can’t leave until December 26 or 27.

@thumper1 the ship departs on Saturdays from Miami. Two days at sea then St Maarten, St Thomas, day at sea then to Nassau and back to Miami. Our S wanted warm and we lucked out with the weather. The ship was a destination on its own.
