citizenship ID -- no politics, please

Given that many non-citizens become citizens, you cannot make them different unless you create a transition plan for the benefits as they convert.

And of course this approach ignores the whole problem of an SSN being used as an universal ID.

I was just thinking back to when we were applying for our Real ID/enhanced drivers licenses used to cross into Mexico and Canada. Mine has the US Flag across the front. I mentioned Selective Services because in my state is was one of the many documents acceptable to prove residency. It was quite the task to pull together our paperwork.

*PROOF OF DATE OF BIRTH (ONE document from LIST A)
*PROOF OF FULL LEGAL NAME (ONE document from LIST B—
that is not being used as proof of photographic identity document)
*PROOF OF SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER (ONE document from LIST C)
*PROOF OF PHOTOGRAPHIC IDENTITY (ONE document from LIST D— that is not being used as proof of full legal name document)
*PROOF OF UNITED STATES CITIZENSHIP (ONE document from LIST E)
*PROOF OF MINNESOTA RESIDENCY (TWO documentsfrom LISTF— that have the applicant’s current name and address)

Not that anyone is curious, but if you are here is the pdf link to Minnesota’s required documents to apply for real id:
