City of Hope Internship 2016

Got in second round too from Utah! Congrats to all
I’m going to send out PIs all throughout this week (probably one a day) while I deal with maybe cancelling my University of Utah research internship admission, but I’ll have to deal with that when that arises haha

Heard back from one PI! Sending him my CV

@Ipapadakis3 What did he/she say? Do you have to do an interview, or just send in your resume?

I guess the neuroscience people or busy because I still haven’t heard from mine. I’ll probably send a few more tomorrow…do you think it’ll be too late then or will I have time?

@JuicyMango he literally said 1 line asking for a cv. Problem is I don’t have much research experience–how should I go about writing it? Last summer and the one before I spent in and out of the hospital due to an illness

I also go to a highly competitive boarding school (#1 in the country) but we have class 8-6 and like 7 hrs of HW a night so during the school year I can’t do research unless it’s through a class

@JuicyMango neurosurgeon mike chen says his lab is already full

@Ipapadakis3 Well you can list your scores and extracurricular activities (clubs/awards). Explain that you weren’t able to do previous research due to your illness, and maybe say you have the knowledge to do scientific research because (I assume) you took AP science classes at your school. And mention that you go to a highly competitive boarding school, he/she will understand the situation.

Yeah I got the email from Mike Chen too. I think its kind of unfair that people who did it last year are able to do it again, because theres no way we can compete with them. From what I’ve seen, these PI’s have already hand-selected the candidates they want to work with. I guess I need to send off a few more emails now :/.

Yeah, that’s what I said in my email to him. Here’s hoping he’s ok with it. Luckily he works in thoracics and I had lung issues those two summers so he should understand :). And @JuicyMango yes I’m upset that it has worked out that way.

I’m going to email one more neuro person not on the list. I’m not sure if we’re supposed to but people in forums from years past have

I got three replies–Dr. Chen and Dr. Talisman said they already filled their student positions. I also got a reply that simply asked for my CV which I sent.

@kikirad Was that Dr. Raz who asked for your CV?

Ok sent out 3 more to neurosurgeons and scientists not on the list since it seems like many neuro spots have filled up…here’s hoping.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veNSwWxbfhc&nohtml5=False hey guys check out 3:30 lol
Found this when looking at COH’s eugene and ruth roberts one

Yes it was in fact @lpapadakis3

that video was actually amazing omg. Can we contact people not listed? Did you just try to find PIs on the website? @lpapadakis3

That Ducati panigale tho

@kikirad same! But I’m sure your CV was better  and I actually mentioned in my emails that if the PI couldn’t take me if they could give me names of others who might be interested, so one person gave me a few. I figured if I mentioned that their colleague had recommended I contact someone not on the list that maybe they wouldn’t mind me bugging them

@JuicyMango have you looked at Dr. Christine Brown? She’s working with T cell to kill brain tumors but she’s listed under hematology so not sure if you emailed her! I just sent her an email so why don’t you go shoot her one too! In total I’ve sent 10 emails, 7 of which are on the email list and 3 who weren’t…I think I should stop now? Lets all hope for some good results!!! Best of luck everyone!

I only sent 6 emails. Should I send more?

@MissfutureENT no, I think that’s ok. I just sent more since it seemed like neuro was going super fast. I mean you can if you want but it’s really up to you!
