And give us a hint, everyone, what you’ll be reading in the interim.

As y’all know, I’ll be reading The Housekeeper and the Professor for my library’s book club - or not. I slip into and out of that group as the mood strikes.

My other book club meets every six weeks and they pick two books: you can read either or both. The books chosen this time are The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver and Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline. I read The Bean Trees and really really liked it. I’m on a wait list at the library for Orphan Train and will read it when it gets here.

I’ve got the latest Flavia de Luce book - The Dead in Their Vaulted Arches to start today and plan to tackle Lonesome Dove again.

Sounds ambitious, right? But I don’t think I managed to get to the ones I mentioned last time except for The Maid’s Version which I really liked. It’s got a funky timeline and characters slipping in and out of the narrative much like Claire did. If you liked that, look into The Maid’s Version. If you didn’t, then know it’s even a little harder going.

I’m reading A Constellation of Vital Phenomena for myself…it’s very good!..and I’m also slowly making my way through Dickens’ Pickwick Papers for another online book group I joined.

In addition to those, I recently read and reviewed a pre-publication copy of a Victorian Gothic novel called The Quick by Lauren Owen. It’ll be out in June and is pretty good but not fabulous.

That’s a wonderful book. I’m hoping to re-read it again myself, whenever I can fit it into my schedule. Right now, I’m still plugging away at The Count of Monte Cristo, all 1,243 pages of it. I keep breaking away for other books, but always return. There is so much more in The Count than I ever knew, including the occasional hashish party, which was definitely not part of the Classics Illustrated version from my childhood.

I’m probably going to be reading Brandon Sanderson’s latest - Words of Radiance. 1088 pages. Luckily we own it, so I can read it slowly. I’m kind of dreading it, especially since it’s number two of a projected ten or twelve. I mean, I like his books, but 12,000 plus pages worth? My younger son loves his books, and I love talking books with him, so I will probably power my way through it. (He whizzed through it over spring break in no time.)

I have followed along on this discussion as by coincidence I was reading this book at the same time as this online book club. I have just added The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry (sorry can’t italicize) to my kindle. Is there a list anywhere of all the other books you’ve read and discussed in the last couple of years of this book club?
Also just wanted to mention that I recently read The Orphan Train and enjoyed it. I see it was listed as a possible read, so even though it wasn’t chosen for next time, I’d recommend it for personal reading.

Welcome, nydancemom! I’m glad you are able to join us. Thanks for the info on The Orphan Train. I’m adding that one to my list. Here are the links to all the books we’ve read (be careful of spoilers if you haven’t read the book):

Thank you so much Mary13. It looks like I’ve read several of these, but not others so may add some to my own list. Currently I’m really enjoying The Invention of Wings.
