People get by fine with bikes. Longboards get stolen a lot more often than bikes, it seems. The racks are usually watched pretty carefully, people know who should be around. I myself have a class at Pomona that I have 10 minutes to get to this semester, so I picked up a bike for $50 at an auction on campus. This is mostly because I’m not great with hills on my longboard; an awesome carver I am not.

The freshmen car rule has more to do with parking than any problems with them owning a car, if I remember the discussion over the issue correctly. Freshmen could have a car if they wanted, but Mudd would not grant them a student parking pass. So anything you don’t need to park is fine.

It does not matter if you get a Mac or PC, and should the curious need to have one or the other suddenly arise, you have 24 hour access to both Mac and PC labs on campus.
