“I think you are seriously underestimating CMC…”

So, in not believing that CMC’s Econ is significantly better than that of Pomona, I “seriously underestimate” it?

My placing the two schools on a more or less equal footing in Econ is a fair and reasonable gesture, since neither of these schools are Harvards, MITs, or Chicagos. And, since the OP shows a deep concern for prestige and name recognition, Pomona is the better choice–though, admittedly, not by far. And, as I have mentioned, the consortium makes it possible to take courses at CMC if one so desires.

Re: Comment #6, that Jack Kemp was a graduate of Claremont McKenna. Sorry, but he actually was a graduate of Occidental College (which Barack Obama attended for two years). See:

I have to echo Broetchen here–you need to do a little more research into CMC. You are seriously underestimating it —for business or politics, the alumni network is amazing. Especially considering the school was only founded in 1946! And although the name recognition is not strong in the general public—the people that need to know it, know it well. I’m not a fan of large schools in any case, so I know next to nothing about ND, but I would encourage you to look a little more closely at CMC. Ever heard of KKR & Co.? Kravis and Roberts both graduated from CMC.

Don’t underrate CMC just because it is less recognized nationally. In California, it is considered to be a phenomenal school, especially for economics. You would get into great grad schools out of CMC and who knows, maybe you will end up working in CA one day.

Plus, the social life of the 5C’s cannot be beat.

Your lack of knowledge of CMC is made clear just by this post. Obviously you don’t live in CA, and have never taken a serious look at CMC! Claremont McKenna has a phenomenal economics program, MUCH better than Pomona. This is only logical, because cross registration between the 5Cs allow Pomona kids to take economics classes at CMC too. No one is doubting that Pomona is a great and wonderful school, but CMC also has its strengths. If the OP is really planning on economics, CMC would be a better choice than Pomona (and ND, in my opinion).
