^Celeridad, not to embarrass you publicly, but your qualifications are basically perfect. Only a couple of the Clarkies last year had shown as much prior involvement in research as you have (which did not include me - I’d just done research the prior summer), and you have pretty stellar test scores, too. I guess it comes down to your narrative then!

And by the way, I’m jealous. I wish I’d gotten involved in research earlier, because it’s just so incredibly cool! You are lucky to have discovered your love for research early and for having known what to do as a result.

Yeah, that’s kind of how it always is. Even within biology last year, we had our neuroendocrinology girl (working with Dr. Carr, or course), me, the genetics/systematics kid (with Dr. Densmore), our morphology boy (with Dr. Strauss) and of course the girl working in microbiology, who worked with His Holiness Dr. San Francisco himself. And of course there were other people working in all kinds of other fields.

I don’t have prior research. Or “stellar” test scores. And I’m not a genius…so looking good…

^Don’t worry, at least a couple acceptees last year had no prior research experience. There was also one girl who, as part of teams, was a two-time Siemens semifinalist BEFORE the program, but that’s pretty much crazy. And test scores don’t matter that much, I don’t think…basically, acceptees are not expected to be perfect.

when did ppl get results last year?

I have no prior experience in Researching, but I applied anyone because I was really interested. Do I have a chance?

I have SAT 2240. Really good grades. Pretty good narratives. And good teacher recommendations.

^ Yeah, you have a decent chance.

I just took a look at my narratives and I shivered.

That’s exactly why I didn’t want to send my narratives to anyone, both before the program and after. They’re so BAD! I could do so much better now. I think I was the “mistake” acceptee among the Clarkies last year…

I wish I could find out if I got in (or more likely, if I didn’t). As I didn’t get into TASP or RSI, this is my priority for the summer, but I’m still trying to plan backup stuff, of course. It’s really hard though, because my mom wants me to actually sign up, but I can’t because I don’t know about Clark Scholars yet!!! Unfortunately, she’s not kind of aligned herself against me going, and thinks that I should just ignore it now, even if I do get in…

I think I have a slightly better chance here than for RSI. My narrative was much, much better, and I was able to add some significant stuff to my resume/activities list between the two application dates. Although there’s probably still only a 4% chance or something like that.

Good luck everyone!

If Clark does not pan out, can you suggest any backup options that can give a similar if not so great experience?

^Check out programs like HSHSP and the Boston U program, as well as any other research programs/internships, local or international, that you can find. Google works wonders. Many of these cost money, though…

I know that seniors are also allowed to apply, but is being a senior going to work against you? We have already made it into college, and they are not exactly developing young potential (I’m haven’t applied for anything else this summer because I can’t think of anything else I’d want to do…).

I don’t believe seniors are at a disadvantage at all.

god, my school is being stupid. I have asked them three times so far to mail my transcript but they have neglected to do so…argh…the frustration, it’s likley that my transcript is going to turn up AFTER they made decisions…gah

Woo, my full app is now there… now to play the waiting game

I believe that Clark is my only hope now, but I am frustrated by my essays. One of them sounds quite cynical. When will they give out notifications?

I got an e-mail from Ms. Durham today that said the decisions should be made by mid to late April.

^Wow, that’s early.

I suggest you give Ms. Durham a heads up and explain your situation.
