Clark Scholars 2010!

^Yes we did. It sounds cool but it was actually a lot of work. It wasn’t fun when we were facing 80+ samples and troubleshooting (there were 4 variables and you can do the math). But the results were good so we were really happy. :)

I think I know the person you were talking about, unfortunately, he will be going to Clark Scholar Program cuz the 13 yrs old Jordan climbed Everest and made him gave up on the hardcore training.

If anyone is still out there, how did clarks go this year?

How selective is program? When does the application come out? Anyone can compare this program with RSI or Simon?

I’m a sophomore, right now with no research whatsoever, interested in applying to PROMYS, Ross Math, MathCamp, AwesomeMath, PolyTech engineering program, Rockefeller physics med program,

I am really advanced in math, and taking 14+ AP’s this year, and very good speaker and writer, won 6 awards in Debate and Model Congress as a freshie, this year anticipate more, with my promotion to Varsity Debate, Mock trial and Model UN.

here’s my full sophomore plan,

can and should I apply to clark’s?

@HitMan: I was one of this year’s Clark Scholars. It went quite well, if I do say so myself. Definitely a new experience for a lot of us, and all of the projects were quite good!

@hypsmc: I am not the best expert on how prestigious/selective the program is, but it is certainly getting stronger with each year, only accepting 12 scholars a year. Regardless of its selectivity, I would argue it is definitely a rewarding and enlightening experience for anyone involved. It is, as any experience, what you make of it.

@shushugah: Well, I must say you are more ambitious than I was when I was considering Clark! 14 APs?! Goodness gracious-- make sure you squeeze in time to have petty, not-resume-building fun too ;)

The Clark Scholars Program, if I’m not mistaken, is for rising seniors and college freshmen. Like this year, we had 3 Clark Scholars who graduated from high school, and the rest of us are seniors this year. So, to answer your question, yes-- you should apply to Clark, as there is certainly no harm in applying, but I think you will have to wait until your junior year to do so. Keep focused on all the wonderful things you are doing now and when it comes to Clark application time, send in your stuff and shine :)

On the application, there is Part B and Part C in which you have to write why you chose that research and your personal information. Below the directions, it has a text box in which you can type limitlessly (I realized that if you keep pressing the “Enter” button, a scroll will appear on the side so technically you can write 1000000000 words). However, in the directions for part B, it says “limit this to this page–be concise.” Does that mean type as much as you want as long as the scroll does not come up on the side? Then for Part C, it says limit your narrative to 1 page. Does this mean type up an essay of 1 page on Microsoft Word Document and then copy & paste it into the box or simply attach a page of the essay and leave the text box blank? I realized that a 1 page font 12 Times New Roman essay is NOT equivalent to the text box under Part C. Thus, if i theoretically wrote exactly 1 page long essay, a scroll would show up next to the text box in Part C.

All of this would not be a problem if the application could be sent online, but it says specifically to mail the application, not online. I wish there were better, clearer directions. :(

Thank you for your help!!! hopefully you see this very soon :P
