<p>Maybe some of the '09ers who visit Arador’s site have heard of other waitlist acceptances, but I have only heard about the one. I have to assume that there was a specific slot in the class mix that needed to be filled.</p>
<p>They want to be over-enrolled at the end of May to accomodate “summer melt” and end up at the targeted class size (383 this year). I gather there has been little or no melt over the last month – probably a reflection of the apparent lack of waitlist action across the board at elite colleges this year. Summer melt typically results from a deposited student getting off the waitlist somewhere else.</p>
<p>I don’t think that being over-enrolled for the class of '09 would put any strain on the capacity of the college. The class that just graduated was a relatively large one and the rising junior and senior classes for this fall appear to be somewhat smaller than usual. However, the larger than expected number of incoming students isn’t the news a those of us with sons or daughters on the sophmore housing waiting list were wanting to hear!</p>
