<p>Thank you. I always wondered if the school does not think the student is serious because they don’t travel to the school. This is good news for those kids that cannot travel.</p>

<p>Well, folks, if it’s true they only had room for two, the class is now full. 
Congrats to those lucky girls. It’s an amazing program and any kid would be fortunate to be admitted, that’s for sure.</p>

<p>Not quite sure where you are getting those numbers from–I took a “tour” of facebook and found abbout 120 students bloggin for the CMU College of Fine ARts----which includes MULTIPLE DISCIPLINES–not just Theater or MT. Quite frankly of those who posted there is less than ten, (a lot less) and NO clue on whether it’s MT or staight theater. It seems a lot more folks DON’T know, so I gues our next 10 plus days will be "The Hell, as my Bangdaleshian co-worker likes to say… The BEST of LUCK to ALL~~~~</p>

<p>I think there are four new freshmen girls in the BFA in MT but can’t verify that for you. But this sounds about right as they take more boys than girls each year. One girl got accepted at the end of the Pre-college program and so has had her slot in the MT class since last summer. Another girl got in last year but due to injuries in an accident, had to defer her entrance until fall of '08 and so she joins the new freshmen class. Then, two other young ladies just got in for MT. That makes four. Whether there is or will be more, I cannot tell you but that is about what is the norm there anyway.</p>
<p>Hey guys. I’m here to join the anxiety. Until now I have been telling myself that I am not one of those nerds that needs a internet college forum for comfort. Well, I guess am and I guess I do. I didn’t apply for MT but rather for Drama only. I couldn’t find a forum specific for that so here I am. I have read part of the forum and I definitely feel your pain. I auditioned a month and a half ago and my level of anxiety has been steadily rising since then. I hate to be a selfish newcomer, but I was wondering if it is a good thing that Barbara Mckenzie-Wood decided to let me preform my third monologue. She said “Good, good, good, sit sit sit” at the end of my audition. The optimist in me says its a positive thing, the pessimist tells me that it is an all too common reaction. Anyones input on this would be most appreciated.</p>
<p>Hey guys. I just read the last couple pages of the forum. Ok, so if its true that everyone will know by the 24th where do I get this info? It’s the 21 right now and the 24 is on monday. Oh, and I feel that I should specify because this forum is mainly composed of women; I am a guy.</p>
<p>Garool…my son is waiting too for CMU. I know at Chicago Unifieds he was asked to do all 3 monologues for the first auditioner and then sent to Barbara and she had him do all 3 and then do some changes and then do some improv with her. As he has not gotten a phone call, we are assuming he is not accepted into the acting program. His friend who got in last year got a call and it seems everyone this year has gotten them too. He is just crossing his fingers he might be waitlisted, but not holding his breath on that either:). Anyway…hope that helps you get a feel for what you did in your audition too. You just can never tell with auditions and some people I think do lots of stuff and others might not do as much, but still get in the program. The waiting is tough though and I’m glad you “broke down” and joined us here…it’s actually a group of pretty nice and supportive people:) that I feel lucky to have found this spring.</p>
<p>Confirmed: CMU will SEND out notices to all students who applied to the University on March 24th. I guess that means that everyone should get some sort of notification in the mail next week.</p>
<p>I may be wrong (often am!) but I think it is safe to say that if your son or daughter has not received a phone call or email from Barbara MacKenzie-Wood or Gary Kline, he or she will not be offered admission to CMU. From what I could gather from previous years, everyone found out before the official letter by way of personal contact with one of the faculty members above by way of phone or email.</p>
<p>Yes, that is probably the case, NMR. But at least if you get a letter, you can “officially” close the books! And, if there are folks on a “waitlist,” maybe that will become known, too, if it’s not already. </p>
<p>Besides, will ALL of those offered admission accept? CMU says it’s yield is quite high, but there is a poster on CC who has been admitted to a number of programs in addition to CMU, and he suggests he might be going someplace else. At least one individual who was called-back to Juilliard had a CMU acceptance. Where will he decide to go if he is offered admission to Juilliard? And what about those MTs who were admitted for acting? Anyway, next week should be interesting.</p>
<p>Good points, all, letsfigureitout. I forgot about the waitlist. I do think that CMU severely limits the number of people they offer admission to, because their yield is very high. But certainly we know from years past that they do have a priority waitlist. (I think soozievt’s D was on priority waitlist for acting.) I wonder if many people have gotten off that waitlist and into CMU. As you say, the next week should be interesting … :)</p>
<p>I agree with NMR that likely all those who are accepted have received the calls by now. However, those offered a wait list seem to be offered that through snail mail when the decision letters come out (which is what happened to my D and a friend of hers). CMU does have a high yield. However, unlike other schools, CMU’s BFA program doesn’t give out more offers than slots available in order to yield the number they wish to take. They only give out offers to the exact number of slots available. That is why in this program’s case, they have to go to a wait list if someone does not take a slot that was offered, whereas many other programs have built in some extra admits to account for yield. I do know someone about to graduate the BFA in MT at CMU who got in originally off the wait list and so it DOES happen but there is no way to predict if it will each year. Also, there are more students on the waitlist than the number of slots that could open. I think the waitlist is short but they have to allow for the fact that some on the wait list may not end up coming and also as we all know, programs build a “group” and everyone on a waitlist has met the qualifications to get in (as it means the school is willing to take them if there is room) but each person fits a certain type/slot in the group and so if one person doesn’t take the offer, they may look for someone on the wait list of that type to fill that slot in the make up of the group. In other words, the wait list is not ordered in terms of talent.</p>
<p>Thanks for the explanation, soozie! I believe that there is also no telling when a kid on the waitlist would get the call and how long that kid has to decide whether to come to CMU. That said, an offer from CMU would be tough for many kids to turn down …</p>
<p>When my D accepted a slot on the PRIORITY wait list, she was told she’d have 48 hours to accept the offer (IF one was made) and postmark the deposit which was due in their office in five days. She was told that if they take anyone off the Priority Wait list, they would be called on May 5 (which is after the National Reply Date that accepted students must send in their intent to enroll). On May 13, she received a letter that their enrollment was complete. Also, if they don’t get what they need from the priority wait list (if they use it at all), the others on the wait list, IF needed, would be contacted June 1. My D was on the acting waitlist but had auditioned for MT (they took three MT girls that year, I think). Frankly, my D would not have been happy not training in MT and thus I really hoped that the wait list did not come through because as fine a program as CMU is, that wasn’t the right placement for her considering she was seeking MT and had gotten into her first choice for MT.</p>
<p>By the way, all that I am telling you is in WRITING…I just looked up the letters which we saved.</p>
