2012Mom: The criteria for graduating from NAPS is completing the year with a 2.0 GPA or higher.

Per information provided by NAPS, “The Naval Academy Admissions Board offers appointments to NAPS students in early May. Selection criteria include: Successful completion of the course of instruction at NAPS, no failing grade in any subject, favorable physical aptitude and a favorable recommendation from the Commanding Officer of the Naval Academy Preparatory School.”

Based upon that, the student could have below a 2.0 GPA but have shown positive progress throughout the year and been able to have the commanding officer recommend that student for an appointment. I know of several that are in this category.

I also know of at least one in the Class of 2008 for NAPS that graduated but did not get the offer of an appointment because of medical reasons. This student was medically DQ’d while in attendance at NAPS.
