Everyone who applied at my school got waitlisted. And we were all varied a lot stat wise. Which makes me wonder…does WashU deny people at all?

There is something pathetic about the desperate viciousness of posters who attack Wash U. Why are they so indignant? It’s a terrific school. Did you not get in? Were you waitlisted, poor souls? Otherwise why do you care? Why don’t you look at Ivies who dump athletes at the last second when a better one comes along? It’s the kind of behavior you wouldn’t see at a Big Ten school at yet nobody says a thing. Get a life, you people.

@Feliz, Thanks. There does seem to be a strange pattern on CC, but not in general. In my private school, 9 people applied, 4 got accepted, 3 got waitlisted, and 2 got rejected. It all fell out as it should have, two of the people who were technically “overqualified” and got into MIT (as it turned out) still got into Wash U. It is sad that just because you were rejected/waitlisted somewhere that you bash the school. Wash U is a great place that may not be for everybody. I just don’t think they waitlist “overqualified” people who they think will go to Ivies.

D got in A&S, but did not qualify for any aid and did not make the cut for scholarships. So if she gets any money from the other schools to which she applied (some of which offer merit aid that you do not separately apply for), her spot will be open. Actually, it may be open, anyway, because WU is far and away the most expensive school on her list.

@gunther6456 I agree with you. I think WASHU will expect great academics, but not only academics, they will look for a good “fit”. I understand that hurts to be wait listed, believe me, my D was wait listed by MIT this Sunday and it is not easy. We are not going to say bad things about MIT because we understand that probably MIT had a good reason to WL my D. We respect their decision. Coming April 1st, my D is expecting acceptances, denials and wait lists. That is the way the process is.

@Feliz, Most colleges aren’t random, so you’re right, they do usually have good reasons. “Fit” is definitely a factor, though it is subjective. April 1st will be a difficult day for many people, including myself. I am just hoping some acceptances are sprinkled in with the waitlisted and rejections.

Let me clarify that my D got into WASHU and it is looking forward to visit and to fall in love with WASHU after being WL from her number one choice. Good luck to all.

Wash U was a very very very confusing boat for my school.

One with higher gpa same sat and somewhat lower sat than me got rejected (psych though I think… or med) and another with way higher gpa, sat, and ECs got waitlisted (bio) and I got waitlisted (Mech Engineering).

I think it had to do a LOT with major, and definitely overqualified people got waitlisted (second person mentioned)

Not that anybody on this thread cares but, among other great qualities, Wash U has perhaps the best Div III athletic program in the country – yes, better than Williams, Amherst or Midd, and with a bigger and more urban setting. The Wash U women just won the national basketball title for a record fifth time, and the men’s team made the Div III Sweet Sixteen yet again. This just shows the school’s commitment to excellence in all phases, and it’s refusal to take a back seat to any college or university, anywhere in the country. So those of you who are complaining about how you were waitlisted at WU and should be going to HYP, take notice: WU aims for the top.

yes, but too bad Wash U doesn’t have fencing. Of the top 16 national universities, only Wash U, U Chicago and Cal Tech don’t have NCAA fencing.

^^ But we do have a huge fencing club ;)

Waitlisted in Kenyon College!!!

I have average SAT score 2090 with 1400 composite score. My CR is really low 640
No good ECs

Could any one say if Kenyon accepts someone from waitlisted candidates.

^^^^You would get better responses if you posted on the Kenyon Forum…

You mean Mizzou has a fencing club…

hmmm you don’t hear all this ragging over on those top LACs websites about “more qualified” students getting waitlisted. If you looked at the Naviance for these and other such schools at my HS, you would see that it is all about fit – or about being a good athlete / having some attribute the school wants – and not about a simple numbers game with the stats!

Did any of you apply to Rice? I thought my daughter would easily be accepted there - 35 ACT, National Merit Finalist, Presidential Scholar Finalist, great recs, good essays, good (not great) EC’s. Haven’t heard from Vanderbilt or UPenn yet. Has anyone besides scholarship winners?

Vanderbilt mailed their decisions on Friday. If your daughter was accepted she should hear tomorrow or Tuesday, since those letters are sent priority mail. If she was wait listed or rejected you should hear some time later this week, depending on where you live. Good luck

@dsjarrell: I was accepted at Rice but waitlisted at WashU.
