Don’t ask your admissions counselor how to “up your chances”. If you have new stuff, send it. If you are super interested, show it. Don’t waste their time with pointless questions.

imma try my best to get in

Yes, and also make sure the stuff you send is relevant. If your SAT score goes up by 10 points, that probably isn’t going to change a thing.

If you have a great semester, with straight A+'s, another excellent reco, something of yours was published etc. these are the things that can help you get in. Just don’t spam them with stuff to “show interest”

Approx how many percent were deferred/rejected/accepted in the ED round?

aaahh! antarius!
i already did “spam”
but i didn’t know it was spamming!!!

here’s what i said:
“While I was disappointed to hear of my deferral, I still am very interested in Rice and would like to know in what ways I could make myself stand out more from the applicant pool and increase my chances of receiving an acceptance.
Thank you and most sincerely,”

mom said it was a great idea to send an email like that!
i sent that at 5:49 PM

That should be fine. I have heard cases of people sending anything and everything they can.

The email was polite and showed continued interest. That should be good. Now focus on your final semester. If anything major changes, like grades, test scores, a new reco etc. then let them know.

I didn’t mean to imply that contacting them is a bad thing. Just use discretion! You will be fine.

They will release numbers at some point. Don’t go by what you see here. Most people who get accepted post back while others don’t. Hence the skewed numbers on CC

Warning: the email and rice website explicitly says to not send them another letter of rec. I don’t really know why but be careful.

Did not know that. Thank you for letting us know. Does it say anything else?

Although Rice is ‘no go’ for my son, I definitely wish those who are deferred an acceptance. We can now move on, but you are left hanging until April?

I remain hopeful for you all. Hang in there, but also work hard at your 2nd string choices. You might ultimately find a better fit.

here’s a copy of the deference letter. RD’ers better watch out b/c i’m gonna rock their boat.

Here ya go-- Rice’s stats on the ED acceptances:
