^^ Is 222 the cutoff in CA, or your score that made NMSF

I got in with a 210 in Mississippi! I don’t know what the cutoff is… but if you got a 210 or above you are in!

@ROCKFISHDG 222 was my score. She said that she didn’t know the cutoff score.

My D with at 219 in a Texas public ISD with close to 100 NMSF each year. I email her GC and said that I hear that NMSF notifications have been mailed to school last week, etc. If GC had any news, it will be helpful to know as we can start putting that information in college app. GC email me right back back and stated “I promise that they haven’t yet release the NMSF”.

@moretolife4 Here is the info for the Florida Incentive Award:

The scholarship is a full Cost of Attendance for any state of Florida public school and it will also pay private schools as well but only at the prevailing public rate. Here is the info: Note the students MUST BE A NAMED SCHOLAR! Finalist might not cut it. For example, the state of Florida will pay the full cost of attendance minus Bright Futures and minus whatever National Merit award the students receives.

It looks like the scores have gone down across the board from last year. I’m expecting states with high academic growth to go down only one point (like KY) but states that aren’t having rapid academic increases to fall a little further. Which means I’ll probably be Semifinalist with a 224 in MA!

@saismom Thank you so much for this information.I think we will savor Semi-Finalist for now and keep this information on the back burner in case “Scholar” should happen to come our way.

To anyone interested in UCF in Florida: If you call admissions and tell them you are a semi-finalist and want to apply and visit, they will waive your application fee and your essay and will take you on a personalized golf cart tour of the places you want to see at the school.

@PatentlyDad , @longwaitillinois; @Momathon so the silence from Illinois really is deafening, considering a *turtle * could have carried news from Evanston to our most populated areas by now, It would be sadly hilarious to see a spike up of 4 points to an unprecedented high while most of the other states drop, but who knows, it could happen: drop in the overall high school graduation count while holding steady in the educated classes. It could happen. Meanwhile, on Twitter, you can actually find photos-in-the-library of semifinalists from Kansans and Texas. Are our principals so tightlipped compared to their peers, or the mail so slow?

@dwightscott Thank you so much for posting!!! This is so exciting; I’ve been waiting for this news for so long!

SE Boarding Schools <= 218, school counselor

Commended (national cutoff) = 201

I emailed D’s guidance counselor again today and got crickets. Our large school district in North Texas is holding fast to the Cone of Silence. Meanwhile, I am also seeing lists, pictures, etc. of NMSF students in other TX school districts posted on social media. So frustrating! If it weren’t for this thread I’m sure I would have resorted to cleaning out the Ben & Jerry’s section by now!

Cone of Silence! Turtle Delivery! At least you are keeping your sense of humor folks. I would be certifiable by now if I didn’t have news. I’m so grateful for our new principal, who seems to know what’s up with this process. Hang in there bubble friends!

@saismom and for Florida parents. Sorry first post and long. Yes, the Florida Incentive Scholars Programs was actually written to include NMF but those that wrote the bill dropped the ball and didn’t understand the difference between “finalists” and “scholars”. You actually have to win a corporate or a $2500 award from National Corporation (or apply to FL school that gives a monetary award, and then attend that school).

I sent this to the fldoe last month:

Hello,

I was hoping to get some clarification on the the newly passed Florida Incentive Scholarship Program. In the fact sheet at OSFA it states that qualification would require distinction as a National Merit Scholar (NMS), as opposed to a National Merit Finalist (NMF). The difference being of the approximately 370 NMF, less than half receive the $2500 scholarship which garners the progression to NMS. However, those that crafted the bill and the budgeting estimates talk of the approximately 370 Florida students that will be eligible for this scholarship and expect approximately 180 to accept and stay in Florida when in fact only 135 students were named NMS last year. It appears that some of the politicians do not understand the distinction between NMS and NMF. Also, the bill went into effect July 1, 2014. Does that mean students entering this fall are eligible because some of the press releases discuss this as good news for rising senior high school students.

Thanks for any clarification you can provide.

In Return I received this:

The new Florida Incentive Scholarship (FIS) is available to those students who are designated as Scholars by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Finalists who are eligible for the new scholarship include those students who receive a scholarship from the National Corporation, a corporate sponsor, or a college sponsor. Those eligible students must enroll full time, the fall immediately after high school graduation, beginning with the 2014-15 academic year.

The National Corporation does offer a $2,500 scholarship, however; corporate and college sponsored scholarship amounts do vary. The Florida Department of Education does not have a role in determining the criteria used in designating students for the National Merit competition set forth by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

The following link provides detailed information regarding the new Florida scholarship program: <a href=“Home - Florida Student Scholarship & Grant Programs”>Home - Florida Student Scholarship & Grant Programs; . Please let me know if we can further assist you.

Me again:

The U of Florida does not offer any NMF awards so we’d need to win one of the corporate or $2500 from NM in order to gain nearly $15k/year, after his Bright Future awards (a watered down Florida scholarship).

My son is solidly in NMSF and has a 2350 SAT but we’d now have to wait till April to see if he’d get anything from U of F (he’s dual enrolled there for the last two years and is his safety) while he’d get a full ride at UCF.

Sorry, more of a vent on poorly written laws/politics. And yes, I am here for the scholarship money as even U of F could be a burden without aid. When I moved here “Bright Futures” (3.75gpa, 100 plus community service hours etc) was promised as a tuition free way to a public FL education.

Large North Texas school district-
At senior parent night this evening, I asked one of the GCs if they had received any NM news yet. She said that they were anxiously waiting the letter. Geez, I don’t need a mystery. It’s suspenseful enough here. Want to see official news.

Got in in Idaho with a 211

@DiffMom @DiWantsToTravel …
I I guess we might be on the same school district :)
