Joe, depends on where you live. Where we are the local newspaper prints it on ‘the day’. It also goes online one minute after midnight. The article lists the NMSFs in our county. They used to have a link to pdf of full state list, but discontinued that last year. That reminds me to bother them today to include it again his year

@illinoisan: Sorry for your daughter and you. Perhaps a learning experience in how to succeed through “failure”? I’m a firm believer that everyone needs to learn how to fail, and it sure sounds like your daughter has never failed with her impressive acccomplishments! Perhaps this will be laughable to her in retrospect and with her all-around top achievements, she can surpass what this would have brought her. Maybe it will keep her from falling harder next time she encounters an obstacle.

It must be hard to be her parent at this moment, but I’m sure we’ve all had those heartbreaking moments. In the scheme of things, this will be small. Deep breaths and it will all work out!

I also want to remind you all that there are nice scholarships out there for commended students, and if you are following this thread, your child likely scored above the commended cut off.

S made it with 221. Friend didnot make it with 220

@woodsmom: Thnx for posting the 218, that is encouraging news & just one away from 217. . . Please let me know if you hear anything else re Washington scores. My daughter is oblivious that she is even in the running for NM and she has no idea that I have been watching this thread almost constantly since end of August. When it comes down to it, I know she’ll have tremendous opportunities either way, it just would be nice to know…

@heshehe - what state please?

@illinoisan, not having the NMSF tag will not make a particle of difference in your D’s college admissions, truly. With her profile she will be accepted anywhere that isn’t a lottery school and probably a couple of those too. Was she looking at schools that give the large NMF scholarships? If not, then this is just another everyday honor and it seems she has some honors already. I wonder, as a female in CA what SAT is needed for Pres. Scholar candidate? Might she get that? She will surely get scholarships if she applies to schools that give them and where she is a top candidate. She will be fine. Hugs for her, and for you too.

Report on DC Urban Moms that 221 made NMSF in Virginia. DS had a 223, so I’m more comfortable he’s in.

@illinoisan so sorry for your daughter’s disappointment. However, this idea that just not being an NMSF is going to overshadow an extremely strong application is not realistic. Yes, she is out of the running for the scholarships ONLY based on NMF–but there are tons of merit based scholarships that rely on GPA and SAT or ACT scores. In addition, at top schools that don’t give merit scholarships based on this one test, NMSF is not that big a deal—one of a number of honors that strong students may or may not report. She is the same outstanding student she was yesterday, and is not “at the back of the line” behind the kids who made the cut for this particular honor. I expect it’ll take her (and you) a little while to get over this disappointment, but her future is still as shining as ever…

Which State?

@papermakermom2: Huge Congratulations to your son in Washington state!

Just wanted to say that at my son’s school, they were called in as a group, but told not to make it public until September 10.

@woodsmom Thank you for posting. I am a wreck as S has a 220 and that just gave me hope. I still will not celebrate until I see the letter from his school. Good luck to all CC parents and students.

Illinoisan, the SAT score is actually converted to a 234 on the PSAT (theoretically.) Schools totally care about that wonderful SAT score. My son got sick right before the AP exams and didn’t do as well as he would have. I think your daughter has more than made up for the PSAT by the even more important SAT. Her work is not for naught as shown by the SAT score and the GPA> ( I think that it what most colleges care about anyway despite their words otherwise.) Have her look up simplycollege.com and it allows her to insert the SAT score by state to see where she can get in (which is probably everywhere!)

@mom2bga can u tell us which state? Or at least if it is one of the highest cut-off states?

For those seeking additional data points, don’t forget to check Twitter if you’re on it. I found virtually nothing at first (tho I’m not very Twitter-savvy), but you might find more info as the weekend progresses. I am seeing more now for our general metro area.

I’m glad to see DC Urban Mom is coming through for a few of our East Coast Friends. Thank you to those who are checking DCUM and posting the info over here for folks to consider (as in, consider the source for all internet postings).

It weighs on my mind that my prior celebratory post today may have been over-the top. Having spent nearly 10 months waiting for our NMSF answer here, I can see many sides to this equation, and if I overstepped and hurt anyone’s feelings then I feel awful about it. I clearly may have done so, and I’m very sorry. For what it’s worth, we are pursuing NMS strictly because it could open scholarship options that would not otherwise be available to DS with his current test scores and GPA. Even though his combo SAT/GPA is high on a grid, it isn’t high enough to bring the kind of merit we need. The higher SAT/GPA scores that some are posting here - regardless of NMSF status - should definitely open many doors, at least from what I’ve read on CC and elsewhere. I hope ALL our parent posters here will come join the Parents of HS Class of 2015 thread, if you aren’t there regularly already (I’m there on & off…I don’t typically spend as much time on CC as I have this week!) The parents on that thread are outstanding and can help brainstorm options for those who might want another POV.

I’m now on a quest for the MO cut-off, as I don’t believe we have it yet, based on the list. If I get additional, credible leads on MO, I will post them here.

My son’s school won’t release any info about NM, What could be the number for FL?
