***Class Of 2015 NMSF Qualifying Scores***

The only challenge is that the prompts aren’t all the same for the common app essay and NMSF essay. The common app essay that my daughter chose does not fit into the NMSF one but one of the supplement essays does, so at least she will be able to use that one more than once.

@cttwinmom2015‌, he applied to a school where they specifically asked if he was NMSF and he checked yes. He has emailed his admissions counselor and she answered and let him know she would note the error.

Interesting, our son doesn’t have an apps like that. Good luck to all of you on these final few days, I’m happy that our son’s done (it helped a lot that he used a common app supplemental essay) and now it’s up to his school to do the rec and sent it on. He’s apply EA so just wrapping that up in the next few weeks.

Shouldn’t there be a fee waiver to send the SATs to National Merit Corp? College Board provided the PSAT score to NMC, but something seems shady about paying College Board to take SATs to confirm the PSAT scores and then paying College Board again to have them sent to NMC.

Everything about CB is shady, but having that settled, we used NMSC as one of the free scores since S took SAT after PSAT scores and NMSF likelihood were already known.

I was rather disturbed by the NMSC language on the parental permission e-mail that was generated after S started the NMF online stuff.

It seemed to be saying we agree to let them give colleges and others access to everything we send them, essays, LORs, grades, test scores. Didn’ tseem to be a way to opt out of it. Am I misinterpreting that?

@celesteroberts, that was so smart, I wish we had thought of it (S got a 233 on his PSAT, took his SATs once, got a 2330, slightly higher when you do the CR+M+10*M/C W)!!! Kuddos to you!

Hmmm …

We used the free test report to send the SAT scores to NMSF since we thought D would make the cut. I find it disturbing that they expect people to pay them to send them scores that they already can access…

My son is putting the finishing touches on his application tonight. Does anyone know if there are pros/cons to putting “undecided” as college choice?

How are people posting the list of semifinalists from some states? Is it possible to get a list from each state by school?

@saismom Thanks for writing to fldoe. I had better luck with Florida Senate Committee on Education who promised to review the law.

@ Florida’s NMSFs, write to your senators/governor and request that the FIS (Florida Incentive Scholarship) be changed to include Florida’s NMF for this scholarship instead of just NM winners.

Here is the Committee on Education: http://www.flsenate.gov/Committees/Show/ED/</a></p>

Anyone have any idea what the information printed on the bottom of submitted application on page 2?
Cl % Col Rank Type Maj Car Col#
62 9 1 1 467 467 9999

I guess : rank : class rank, Maj: 467- my kid’s major- mech. eng. , Car: 467: same as “Maj”, Col# 9999: “undecided”.
Any idea for “CL”, “% Col”, and “Type” ?

let me clear up my previous posted info.
Cl: 62
% Col :9
Rank:1
Type: 1
Maj:467
Car:467
Col#:9999

@kathsj, I hadn’t even noticed that information until your post. Our school doesn’t do rank (congratulations on your son/daughters 1, ours is just blank!) and I’m hoping that someone else knows what "“CL”, “% Col”, and “Type” mean because I do not. Here’s ours:
Cl: 13
% Col: 9
Type: 2

haha, seems it’s been discussed before <a href=“Numbers on the NM Scholarship App - National Merit Scholarships - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/national-merit-scholarships/1401504-numbers-on-the-nm-scholarship-app.html</a></p>

@cttwinmom2015 Thanks!
I guess “Cl” is class size/10, my son’s class size is in the neighborhood of 620 students and “Type: 1” is public HS.
Now, about the “% Col”. @cttwinmom2015- Are you Californian? We are. Maybe “%Col:9” = University of California’s ELC program which guaranteed the top 9% admittance to one of UC campuses (but not necessarily UCs that your child choose!).
To confirm this, I need Texans to give info. whether they have “10” in “% Col”. Texas has Top 10% auto admit program for their public colleges/univs.

Cl = class size x 10

@Kathsj you were correct the first time  Cl = class size/10. This makes sense on my S’s application also. 43 = 430/10 with a class size of 430.

My DS also has %Col: 9 We are not in California or Texas and our state has no guaranteed top % admissions. Seems strange that 3/3 people so far have a value of 9.

Just a guess: % of kids who attend 2- or 4-year college/10
