***Class Of 2015 NMSF Qualifying Scores***

^ * I* know why. These people we are dealing with are sadists.

Thanks for the clarification, everyone. So at least we will ALL know by Sept 10, even if our HS doesn’t tell us. We can just call. Sheesh. What a process…

Also, there needs to be an entire Dilbert comic series created around the process…

Good question on how will NMSC know with whom they’re speaking. Listing the SSN on the PSAT was optional.

When I called in a week or so ago to confirm D2’s eligibility for scholarship consideration (basically making sure no boxes were improperly checked on the PSAT) they asked for her DOB to confirm her identity.

It’s probably not a bad idea to confirm eligibility for your student. Generally, if there was not an asterisk next to their PSAT score on the official score report they should be fine, but hearing it directly from the horse’s mouth (or whatever part of the horse you might consider them to be :)) ) might give you a little peace of mind…and also give you the opportunity to clear up any “clerical” issues that could hamper the NMSF to NMF progression.

Since last night ( 8:00 pm Friday) there were 8000 views of this

8000 views of this site ( there were 212.1k on Fr and there are 220.5K now) and no one has any news, not even in IL. Did they really send this on Tuesday?

@ILmom7‌

I called NMSF HQ on Wednesday and they confirmed that the letters had already been sent out.

@STEMFamily‌ thank you! Best of luck to you too :)

My daughter’s PSAT score was 223 in NJ, so I am anxiously awaiting the results too. I have been reading this thread for the past couple of weeks. Thanks to so many who have posted helpful information about how this ridiculously drawn out and complicated process works!

How much college mail is your senior getting from the schools that give a lot of NMF money? My son is getting a lot of mail from OU and UCF, but none from Alabama, Auburn or Kentucky.

My son was a NMF from class of 2014. He never got any mail from U of Alabama until he applied. We got lots of mail from U. of Chicago, though.

Kansas has a fairly good number of home-schoolers from what I understand, and I’ve tried (in vain) this weekend to see if I could track down a KS homeschooling network via some of my friends who have high-achieving students in math circles, scouting, etc.

To our helpful homeschoolers in this thread, would you have any suggestions as to how I could improve my search for homeschoolers in my area (or heck, my state)? I tried Google, of course, but didn’t have much luck. I’m sure it would be better to work through friends and connections, but I’ve tried that to no avail.

Goaskdad -I was hoping some more homeschoolers would come forward on this thread. We usually network through local groups and activities so it would be tough to connect with strangers via google. I will keep you informed on the status of our letter here in PA.

Well come Tuesday, we’ll have the hopefully added benefit of schools that notify their students right away! We really only need what…one per state, LOL! Well, maybe more than that, if they don’t give the cutoff in the letter.

@GoAskDad you might try http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/</a> it’s a national homeschool forum.

Here’s a list of KS homeschool groups:
<a href=“Homeschool World: Kansas Homeschool Organizations and Support Groups”>http://www.home-school.com/groups/KS.html</a></p>

If a homeschooler is on the bubble, will they ONLY get a letter if they made NMSF? Will they get no news if they didn’t make it?

@3scoutsmom, thank you so much for those links! I will look into them.

@lessismoremom, it’s my understanding that the “Homeschooling Principal” (as in, the parent) will receive a letter only if their DC made the NMSF cut-off, but I could be mistaken about that.

@GoAskDad, I checked with my Oklahoma homeschooling friends. No one has received anything yet.

The first group of letters that got sent out on Aug 26th is to notify Semi-finalists of their status. For students who will be Commended but fall below the state cutoff for SF, they will receive a different letter later on in September. In any case, if you haven’t heard anything before Sep 10th, call NMSC and they will confirm the status of your child at that point. DO NOT wait on your school to notify your child, as the timeline for that varies WIDELY depending on how much the school knows/cares about NM recognition for it’s students.

If NMSC informs you that your child is a SF and they haven’t received anything from their HS, that becomes the time to be proactive yet not pushy about having the school find your student’s notification letter. The letter will contain login information that the student will need to create their online account at NMSC and complete their portion of the SF package. It’s not a time-consuming ordeal, but with everything else these seniors have on their plates it helps to get started ASAP. The deadline for submission is normally around Oct 10th, so they’ll have about a month to get everything together for their part (send their confirming SAT score, submit their essay, etc.). The school needs to submit a principal’s rec letter (sometimes GCs or teachers do this for them), official transcript, etc. and depending on the school/workload this can take a little while also.

@goaskdad you are correct. I called NM the week before last and that is what they told me–packet for semifinalist mailed out in the 26th and can call in the 10th to find out about your student and then the commended certificates mailed. Since D is 220 in Indiana it would be pretty bad for all of us if she didn’t get anything next week. Since we haven’t gotten anything yet here in Indiana I am not surprised nobody else has. As soon as I get something I will post! the wait is crazy.

Are the SAT scores due before October 10th? Suddenly I’m fearful of a considerable increase from previous years. We’ve already sent scores that are above 1960, but what if they aren’t enough?
