Class of 2016 Results: Celebrate, Discuss, Support Here

katdan–Our only girls are suffering together! Ah, the sisterhood of deferred knowledge. As my d said, “Mom, I love movie suspense. . .but not the kind that’s happening to me!”

The mad scramble…I’m usually the only one here when the mail comes, I work at home and they are still at school. D2015 is actually waiting for scholarship news for a summer college program (Summer@Brown - if anyone has direct experience with it I’d love to hear from you here or by message), and S2012 is waiting for some more accepts and FA packages. It’s kind of funny to see them both care what’s in the mail :)

So far, 50% acceptance rate. I have 8 more that I have to hear back from.

4 rejections and 4 acceptances.

My dd has been accepted to 9 schools thus far (small and mid-sized private LAC’s & large and mid-sized state universities). She has 5 others pending which were submitted RD (14 total). I have been the one to scramble out for the mail daily, too.

I’ll be driving with her to 4 of the schools late this month and early in April, for accepted student days… but may back out of a couple of later visits, should she receive word of acceptance and comparable FA from one of her still pending schools. I am as ready as she, for this to finally be nailed down.

Man, I can’t believe how many schools some are applying to? I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it, but it somehow doesn’t feel appropriate. It just “gums” up the system.

How can someone “seriously” be considering over a half dozen options? If properly spread on price, student experience and geography? amazing! number of “balls to juggle” I had my hands full with 7, and 3 of those weren’t really in the running anyway.

So glad that S got accepted to Case Western yesterday with a lot of merit money. It’s nice to have SOMEPLACE for him to go in September! We’re still waiting to hear from 8 other schools though…

D is done with her process–applied to 3 schools (long story–was unwell during a big chunk of the fall and this is what she could get out) and accepted to all 3, 2 with merit monday. She will attend Drexel in Game Art and Production with a 4 year full tuition National Merit scholarship (at least as soon as they confirm she can defer admission for a year)! My support goes out to all the families still waiting…

Megan12–congrats to your son. That first acceptance is so important. Sudsie—3 did the trick for you and d! Congrats on the National Merit!

Giterdone… my D is not a very strong student and really has no hook, other than her Catholic HS… So we were simply looking for her to get accepted. We felt the need to have her cast a wide net…thinking she may legitimately have only 2-3 choices out of 14 apps. We really underestimated how ad-coms would view her qualifications and app. Go figure…

Hey, no worries. Now, I don’t know what you’ve accomplished as far as narrowing choices? and I think, in hindsight, you either underestimated your daughters cred, or panicked about how selective you thought colleges might be. Either way, your work is just beginning, if all 14 of your choices were legit (and assuming you get good news from the remaining 5)? you gotta narrow 'em down to 1 in about a month. Good luck!

We are guilty on both counts, giterdone. Reading tales of doubt and despair at CC had me on defense the entire time. Her older brother applied to one school ED last year… and had his college search wrapped up by 12/15. We’d certainly rather be safe than sorry with DD, but in hindsight, it was overkill.

She has narrowed down the current list of 9 to 4 (only 1 of which, she has visited)… and is waiting eagerly to hear from 2 of the remaining 5 (both of which, she has visited).

We do not qualify for any Federal aid, other than loans. But the private schools - especially the small, Catholic LAC’s, have been very generous thus far. That will certainly help tip the scales in the final analysis. We are very grateful for all the opportunities she has been extended.

Our FA situations are identical, and I can “ditto” the experience on the Catholic LAC’s! One nearby us jumped from a possible #3 or #4 choice, to a strong #1b based on the very nice FA package (and facilities we saw on visit). Very impressive.

Anyone accepted into Belmont School of Music? Are you going to go?

Eons ago, when I was in middle school, I fell in love with Brown, my first “love”. I wanted to go to a summer program at Brown, but we could not afford it at the time, and it was only not even a week long.

Hurt, I pushed Brown out of my mind. Now, six years later, I received a Likely Letter from Brown. I am completely ecstatic, and I thank karma for this. My mom believes that it was meant to be this way. I feel so blessed.

Congratulations to you CPU! Brown is my S’s first choice as well. He got deferred from ED and is still waiting patiently for an answer. He would be very jealous!

Thank you, megan12!

I know what it feels like to be rejected from a first choice (which started not to be my first choice as time went on after the deferral). It hurts but sometimes one window closes just for a huge door to open, as clich

formmc - some Belmont people in the music major forum.

CPU, my D’15 has been accepted to Summer@Brown but we are waiting to see if she has eared their scholarship or not. She’s very excited about it :)

I hope she is able to attend, ohiobassmom :)

I’d think of you if she does :)

Thank you that means a lot :)
