Class of 2017 Hopefuls!

I’m so nervous for tomorrow!

1) Where you’re from: Long Island, NY
2) When you submitted your application: Nov 7th
3) How long/hard you WORKED on your app: MUCH more than for any other college…I was obsessive.
4) Did you do the optional favorites essay?: Yes, that was the best part!
5) The topic you chose for your creative essay?: Past for a present
6) In your opinion, which was your best essay?: Past for a present - although I went a lot over the limit, and I hope that hasn’t worked against me. I think the length was worth it.
7) What you want to major in: Psychology
8) Whether Chicago’s a safety/likely/reach school for you: (Out of my) Reach
9) How badly do you want to go on a scale of 1 to 10?: 8.5? I do really want to go there, but I’ve come to terms with the fact that it’s most likely not gonna happen, even if I do get in. It’s definitely my first choice though, and I’m in love with it and will probably cry for a few days and eat a few gallons of ice cream and get over it eventually because there’s nothing else I can do. Even more than wanting to actually attend UChi, I want to get in…to just be worthy.

Never posted before and just lurked, but had to make an account because of sheer agony of waiting…

1) Where you’re from: Missouri

2) When you submitted your application: I don’t remember… it was before Nov 1st, though.

3) How long/hard you WORK on your app: I spent about 4-7 days on each essay trying to make sure they said exactly what I wanted. It wasn’t in a row, but over time since I started early (the only app I started early!)

4) Did you do the optional favorites essay?: Of course! I wrote about an art piece that I really liked.

5) The topic you chose for your creative essay?: “Where’s Waldo?”

6) In your opinion, which was your best essay?: Definitely the creative/extended essay. I wrote about Ralph Waldo Emerson, transcendentalism, and Waldo.

7) What do you want to major in: Econ/math/poli sci/russian/undecided. I don’t know.

8) Whether Chicago’s a safety/likely/reach school for you: Chicago’s a reach for anyone at this point. My test scores are great, my GPA is decent, I really like my essays, but my ECs are bit lacking so I’m expecting deferral -> rejection, but I hope an adcom decided to make me happy.

9) How badly do you want to go on a scale of 1 to 10?: 11. Top choice, without a doubt.

Good luck to everyone! Hope it turns out great and if not, keep in mind that they’re only judging a resume, not a person. If they got to know each of us personally, I’m sure they’d accept each one of us without reservation.

Today’s the day!

1) Where you’re from: Texas

2) when you submitted your app: October 28th

3)How long/hard you WORKED on your app: 2drafts for Common App essay, 1 month brainstorming the prompts, 3 weeks writing everything…tedious, lol

4) Did you do the optional Favorites essay: Yep! Briefly mentioned my obsession with the history of the Tudor dynasty, my love for Chinua Achebe’s writing, Florence + The Machine, but spent the majority talking about my love for Les Mis and how it has changed me as an intellectual.

5) The topic you chose for your creative essay: Where’s Waldo

6) In your opinion, which was your best essay: Hmmm…Waldo was unique, but the Les Mis one was quite dark, not disturbing, but enough for them to know that I’m not someone who has daisies drifting in her head. Quite personal.

7) what do you want to major in: HUMAN RIGHTS! But it’s only a minor there so International Relations as my true major and the former as my minor

8) Whether Chicago is a safety/likely/reach school for you: far reach. SATs aren’t in range, GPA is pretty good, took extremely difficult classes throughout, tried to show them that I can handle anything thrown at me.

9) How badly do you want to go at this point: 10. Seriously. Applied here and to Columbia (deferred) but I won’t lie I was pleasantly surprised by that. Only 5 schools in the US offer anything related major/minor in Human Rights, so that’s what initially attracted me. I love the rigor of its core classes. Chicago REALLY wants to develop each student into an intellectual, not just an intelligent individual. Don’t feel like applying anywhere else tbh…but if I have to then I will. GOOD LUCK TO ALL IN ABOUT 12 hours
