Class of 2019 (the journey begins) - Sharing,Venting, Etc

D is excited by her possibilities and is also on a waitlist. She has removed some from her list, so we’re almost there. I do think that we’ll probably be last-minute depositors. I’m glad that she has choices she likes and are financially feasible!

Same here @myloves he’s very pleased with his options! That makes it harder to choose.

The waitlist limbo is killing me, too. I’m definitely in the same boat. I LOVE DePaul and its program, but it’s hard to totally emotionally commit with the little remaining flicker of CMU hope in the background. Trying to shove that thought away, though! If it comes through, awesome. Otherwise, I have another great place to go.

So happy to see I have so much company still in “limbo”.

Hang in there! It was April 25th when son made his final decision, and though I was soooo ready for the process to be over, we visited the two contender campuses during our April vacation and he was able to compare and decide. You will be sending in a housing deposit before you know it

Just a teensy bit of advice if you expect to be a last-minute decider: check all the schools and make sure you know exactly how/when that deposit can be made. Some take credit cards online on May 1, some want actual checks, which means mailing it in time to GET there by May 1, some say it just has to be postmarked by May 1 (gulp, we didn’t want to take that risk). Know exactly where to go online to send it, also where and to whom to mail it if that is the case. Also, I remember there being a surprising amount of confusion at one point with some schools as to where exactly to direct messages to schools my child was turning down.

Still in limbo as well. 2 MT Waitlists, and 2 completely different majors to decide between. (Vp/Mt) one minute I feel like I know, then I change my mind.

Also still in limbo. Wait listed at my first choice and one of the most selective schools!

Toowonderful, that’s so funny! My son and I recently visited BW–loved the school but HATED the colors and the mascot. Who would ever want to be an angry hornet?

My son said he was choosing his school by the bookstore and how much swag was available!

Fighting Yellow jackets @claire74 – not hornets – I think Shenandoah was the hornets?

You’re right diviamamacita, darn ugly, though, aren’t they? We visited both colleges the same week and tried to buy swag at the bookshops, but the colors/mascots were just too offputting! Great programs, lousy merchandise!

It grows on you… Go Jackets!

Good news for the D yesterday… Off the wait list at Costal Carolina by email!! Now she has an even tougher decision to make . We are going to revisit one campus next week and do the first on campus visit at Costal as well!

@Christyflower Coastal was fantastic to work with when we visited. They arranged for D to sit in on classes, have lunch with current MTs, take a voice lesson, etc… (she had passed an in-person prescreen at Moonifieds and was then accepted at Unifieds so she had never been on campus) We did a campus tour that morning, got to talk with the program heads ourselves who were very willing to answer any and all questions, then left D there for the day and picked her up late that afternoon. They really made a great effort to make sure she was as familiar with the program as she could be. I 'm sure they will arrange a great visit for you. But make sure to ask for a voice lesson, etc… if you want one.

Coastal and Otterbein were son’s two contenders and all of us would have been happy for him to land at either. As vvnstar said, Coastal provided a great day for son. Enjoy your visit!

@vvnstar @entertainersmom Thank You! She had a great experience at Chicago Unifieds with the Costal staff and has a friend who is going to be in the freshman class so it will be a tough decision! Can’t wait for the tour and will follow your advice about the voice lesson! If Costal were a little closer and less expensive it would probably be her pick, sight unseen!

@Christyflower: Have you talked to Coastal about possible ways to minimize cost? It used to be that some Physical Theater majors could qualify for in-state tuition through the Academic Common Market. Not sure if that would work in your case. I think it’s possible to be a physical theater major and still get to participate in musicals and take voice and dance. But I would check to make sure. Also, I think D was offered more $ through academics than what was available thru talent. One thing that wasn’t so great there was I don’t think we could stack scholarships - we had to take the greater of the two. But I’m sure if you talk to their financial folks there may be ways to reduce the cost a little. Worth asking at any rate.

Congrats on the CCU acceptance! I still remember our visit 5 years ago. It was the last week in April so we were down to the wire. My D went in thinking she needed to visit CCU, since she hadn’t been on campus prior to her acceptance either, just to make sure she was making the right decision to go to NYU. Obviously that visit made all the difference since she is now a very happy CCU alumnus. Enjoy!

I haven’t posted on here in a while (NYC keeps you even busier than college, y’all) but since Coastal Carolina is already the current subject, anyone considering the program should 100% send me a private message. I’ll get an email notification and will respond to you ASAP. I’m a 2014 BFA Musical Theatre grad, and I still say that probably the best decision I’ve made thus far in life was to attend CCU, even after almost a year of pounding the pavement in the “real world”. All the best to everyone in making their final decisions! Remember that nothing is permanent, everyone’s path is different, and success and happiness are life-long journeys (this is what I tell myself when I head to an EPA at 4:30 in the morning on the C train).
