Class of 2019 (the journey begins) - Sharing,Venting, Etc

D got Hunters and Sorels for Xmas last year. I told her if her feet were wet/cold on the way to class it wasn’t my fault!

My mom swears by her Sorels. She’s been wearing them since university. We do have a ten month winter up here though so they prove very useful!

Good Morning all. Checking in too. D having a good summer. She is Mary Poppins and is indeed practically perfect in every way. The “flying” people come Friday and she starts her rounds of TV and radio appearances next Monday. All while working full time.

Continued to be impressed with the personal service at LIU Post. The MT yield is huge. 26. They graduated the first class and the alums seem to be doing very well.

We were constantly warned that it is a commuter/suitcase school. Through social media she has met the MT kids. They are from all over the country and won’t be going home on the weekend. Plus she has met many of the incoming honors college kids and although many are regional, many are not. So, not at all worried about that.

So far so good. I’m sad about the impending empty nest. But, looking forward to getting a job!

Hope all my CC friends are having an awesome summer. Hugs

Oh and thanks for the snow boot discussion. Deep South here. No snow. Was obsessed with ordering them before school but now gonna hold off.

@winnieroot Being from Michigan and neither my daughter or I wear boots at home -after her first year at college she realized its helpful to have boots and a good coat because you walk everywhere you go instead of getting shuttled. Since she won’t be in upstate NY your probably pretty safe through Thanksgiving not to gave actual snow boots. If you’re from the Deep South she’ll want a decent coat with gloves, scarf and a hat before then.

In NY she will probably want some good waterproof boots (and with some insulation for warmth) for walking through the watery slush. She’ll have a much bigger selection, be able to find a better fit, and hopefully find sales once she’s in NY. As I said, I love my boots from Target. The quality is the same as my Sorels, but I found they were much more comfy because they seemed to fit my feet better. Even with Sorels there are numerous styles to choose from, so she really should try them on.

Some winters I rarely wear mine and some I wear them almost daily. It really just depends on the weather and my activities. I think she will definitely need some sort of waterproof footwear for walking to class and around the city.

Thanks y’all! We have rain boots, it rains a ton down here. She has Hunter and Joules and they are super cute.

True about trying them on…

Moosejaw had a great sale on Parkas. Bought her a nice one with a hood. And she has very heavy J Crew Collection black coat that got us through the Chicago blizzard at Unifieds. Plenty of gloves, scarves, hats.

Question for those who want to share …

(I actually think this could be a very cool thing for those who are currently looking at colleges and comparing them … I would’ve loved seeing something like this a year ago.)

What does your MT kid’s freshman schedule look like?

Acting I
US Gov & Politics
Dance
Musical Theatre I
Freshman Seminar (On tattoos I think??)
Script Analysis

(This is for a BFA)

I’ve wondered what other programs look like–my daughter will be taking:

Dance
Acting 1
Script Analysis
Music Theory 1
Private Voice
Performance and Critique Workshop
Production
Writing

This is for a BFA.

My daughter is in a BA program and here is her schedule for the fall

Playwriting
Theater Design (covers her math requirement)
Monologues
Movement for the Actor
Theater History
Stage Managing

Would it be possible for people to include the school/program when they post the schedules? That would be really helpful for Class of 2020 folks and interesting for all of us! Thanks!!

Hmmm, interesting thread

Ballet 1
Music Theory
Aural Skills
Acting 1-Speech Building
Vocal Tech-MT
Freshman Studio 1 (taught by an MT professor)
College Writing 1
New Student Seminar (taught by an MT professor)

This is for a BFA MT program (Montclair)

@bisouu So in a BA yet there are no academic classes in the list? What year is this? Watt school?

I think I’ll cut and paste and start it’s own thread - it could be valuable for some future MT kids.

Anyone have any objections? @16bars @bisouu @cpotgtis

Excellent idea!! And while I’m at it, could someone do me a huge favor? I feel like a dope but I have no idea how to post on Final Decisions so I never did it . My D Will be attending the Boston Conservatory as an MT major. Thx!!

Ok! I started the thread … I won’t be so presumptuous to repost anyone’s schedule.

Some of you included the school, some didn’t … so I’ll leave it up to you guys if you choose to re-post with that information.

@Joyfulmama The above is her sophomore year fall schedule at Drew University. Her playwriting class covers her writing intensive and her Theater History class covers her history requirement. She gets to make her own schedule and decide what classes she wants to take. She does have prerequisites and other gen eds to fulfill. Drew has a language requirement so she will be taking French for 3 semesters to cover that one. She also is in the honors program and has to take courses to get that scholarship money. Her freshman year she had :

Art of the Play
Freshman writing
Honors class/Conspiracy theory
Acting/Directing
Theater Tech
Tech Lab
Acting Independent study (she was cast in a main stage show)

@bisouu How wonderful that she can use theater-ish classes to meet other requirements. Wow congrats to her for being cast as a freshman!! I keep meaning to look at Drew, will take a closer look now

THE PACKING FOR SCHOOL BEGINS:
This is directed to all the veteran MT College program parents! Okay, so the packing to send her off begins…what could YOUR son/daughter not live without at school? Does anyone have a back-to-school list?

I think there is a thread from last year on this topic… I will search. Less is more!!
