Class of 2019 (the journey begins) - Sharing,Venting, Etc

Good for you!!

Thanks!! can’t wait

We leave in 23 days… We’re headed to Daytn on the 26th… Move-in is the 27th. It seems VERY soon… Ugh. Not. Ready.

We leave the 18th … move in is the 19th!

Move in day at Elon is August 21st! D has been counting down all Summer and cannot wait!

We leave to drop son off @ TCU on the 18th… Move in day is on the 19th. How psyched is everybody that we are not making our list, checking school’s websites…finding out who has prescreens…who wants what… I for one am pretty freakin psyched not to be doing that right now LOL!!!

I was just looking for the Background/Journey thread for Class of 2019 and can’t find it. Am I losing my mind?

Just finished orientation at DePaul and am beyond excited to move in on the 30th! I was in an orientation group with eight other Theatre School students, and their backgrounds and interests were so diverse and fascinating. (One costume tech major became interested in garment construction/costume tech because her mother works at a hospital and had her help make the funeral clothes for the infants who passed away. A little morbid, but nonetheless poignant, and what a unique start to a lifelong passion.) I really feel like I’m going to the right place. I’m sure every bright eyed and bushy tailed freshman says this, but being in The Theatre School at DePaul already feels like being home.

OU freshmen move in Aug. 20th. Full service. Pull up, they unload your car and carry everything to your dorm for you. D is SO ready!

My daughters school also did full service freshman year. I missed that last year and at move out-enjoy it! This is her third year and she really has cut down on the stuff. She has already been back and is enjoying the minimalist lifestyle and really does not need me to bring a whole lot more!

Son was assigned a senior BFA Acting student to assist during move-in. I thought it was a nice touch.

LOL, I was the ā€œfull service,ā€ both coming and going! As to stuff, D is no minimalist…she’s got way more than her older sister (non-BFA) ever did in 4 years of college. She can’t wait to go back (September 2) and I can’t wait to get my den back.

August 15 move-in. Lots of required stuff for BFA MTs the week before class starts on the 24th. They even have to have an audition song ready on the first day to sing in class.

Auditions for all fall performances are literally within the first week of school. It’s crazy!

@MTDadandProud - same here! D has received her audition requirements for the first musical already and it all has to be ready day #1. We thought we would move her in and spend the weekend with her shopping for last minute essentials, meetings roomates & suitemates (& parents), etc., but it is going to be tough doing all that around the receptions and pool parties already planned for these MT kids (sans parents) on move-in weekend! She’s going to be waaaay too busy to miss her family, that’s for sure!

Aug. 13th move in for my D to Missouri State! Sad but very exciting day! Just so happens the freshmen class convocation speaker this year is a famous MT grad who has been the lead in Pippin and is on the show " Nashville"! The MT students have a Q and A and a Master Class scheduled with him as well, plus the next few weeks MT students will be singing alongside a star from " Something Rotten" as they come to Missouri to promote the upcoming touring show! Just hope she won’t have time to get homesick !

S moves in on 8/19 auditions for fall show 8/20

So. We leave in a week to drive D to Nebraska. (And then turn around, drive back to Indiana and load up her sister to move her to Nashville.)

What do you think could’ve happened to me? Bear in mind, I’m the mother of a kid who broke her foot at one of her auditions last year.

I have a torn meniscus.

Hurts like a son of a blah blah blah. I can barely walk. The next couple of weeks should kill me for sure.

Dammit. :((

Oh @KaMaMom – so very sorry! I know that is going to add another layer of stress to getting your kids off to college. But Im sure you will do it with the same determination and wit that you approached the college audition process with. Hope you will be free of pain soon and sending you wishes for a speedy recovery. And of course, best wishes to your D as she starts college. It sounds like you have found a wonderful place for her to be and I’m excited to hear all about it. Good luck with your moves!
