Class of 2019 (the journey begins) - Sharing,Venting, Etc

Thinking forward to Chicago Unifieds, and also trying to Christmas shop for my D – what type of speaker/sound system should she have in those audition rooms? She has a decent (not great) little bluetooth speaker, but she is a little nervous about anything battery operated, and I don’t think the sound is that great. Does anyone bring in a system that plugs into the wall? Or do you just make sure they have plenty of backup batteries? Any wisdom will be appreciated.

We did battery operated b/c I was worried that there wouldn’t be a plug in an appropriate area! Another tip (and I have said it before) bring speaker even when there is supposed to be an accompanist. Last year at there was an audition across the hall from one where we were waiting at Unified- accompanist got sick, and kids were scrambling. (they allowed you to sing a capella, but that is a whole other set of challenges)

Many low-midrange bluetooth speakers can also be connected to laptop, etc. through USB or headphone jack. Battery can be recharged this way, then separated to play bluetooth/wirelessly. Or can remain connected to device to play through USB/headphone jack.

Do not use a plug-in. Even if there is a plug it may not be in a convenient spot for operation during audition.

Some/many programs have specific instructions to use a battery-powered system and some specifically state not to attempt to use a plug.

My S got accepted into the OCU MT program today! Yea! One of his top choices! Many more auditions to go though but its nice that he is wanted somewhere!

Oh Congrats @MTDandProud!! Be prepared for some questions here!

Congrats @MTDandProud! Our D is a sophomore there and loves it. If you have questions, feel free to message me and I will do my best to answer them!

Congratulations @MTDadandproud and S! That’s terrific news :)

Congratulations MTDadandproud!!

I had son pack two battery powered speakers :)

Also, have the book and sheet music handy. In Chicago, son’s audition for Otterbein was with recorded music, but there was an accompanist there too and they worked on his songs. Luckily he had his sheet music with him.

D got OCU acceptance email today! I’m so glad her first decision letter was a “yes”. <:-P Living in the moment of today and celebrating! Tomorrow is another day…

WOW @addicted2MT that is awesome! congrats!

Having that acceptance in your pocket will help ease the stress of your remaining auditions. You now know she has a great place to go to school @addicted2MT . Congrats to you both! (and of course if you have any questions about OCU, feel free to message me and I’ll try to answer as best I can :))

Still haven’t heard anything from Baldwin Wallace! :((

Does anyone know if the dance calls conflict for Texas State and UMich conflict at Chicago unifiers? Trying to plan my auditions and that would suck if they conflicted

They butt up to one another. I wrote to UMich and they said they would make sure that he was put into the first group to dance so that he could get to his Texas State on time. Very helpful.

I’m told that judging by last year, they shared a space at the Joffrey Ballet : one school in day, and one in the evening. But you should email and ask to be sure

^that is how it worked last year in Chicago. U of M was in the afternoon, Texas State was in the evening on Sunday prior to the official start of Unifieds. Songs/Monos were separate appointments throughout the rest of Unifieds.

Does anyone know if Montclair had a dance call at Unifieds?

Yes, they had a dance call at Chicago Unifieds.
