Class of 2022 (the journey); sharing, venting, discussing

@Karamiles unfortunately I think you’re right, it varies by school with some schools having more movement than others.

Celebrate the Yes she has!

Hang in there, we know how difficult this is!

@Karamiles - waitlists DO move. There are lots of us on here whose children have gotten acceptances off of WLs. Make sure your D has let her WL schools know that she is very interested in their programs. We were prepared for a gap year last year with D2 (Acting), as she didn’t love the schools where she was accepted (and one ended up being unaffordable) when she came off of a WL on 5/1. But there were multiple other WLs she was on that she never came off of. This process is SO HARD!!! And one yes is all you need!

@Karamiles – waitlists are good! Someone here or on another thread said a kid on a waitlist has a YES without the spot. It’s very early in the decision process. A kid with 5 acceptances can only go to one school. So the other spots open up for the kids on the waitlist. Now, this may take till late April and beyond – which is mind-boggling. No guarantees in this game, but a waitlist keeps the hopes alive - for sure! Hang in!

In our experience…waitlists at the tippy top are very slow to move and have very few openings. Some schools also decide their class is complete and just don’t go to the waitlist. (I have observed this at Carnegie, UMIch, CCM, Ithaca, Penn St.) At these schools maybe a spot or two opens but maybe not. So you hang on but can’t set your heart on it. With that said my daughter got very lucky and got the school of her dreams from a waitlist. She also got off another top contender at the end of August! but by then she was over the moon at UMIch. In my experience, school’s that take bigger classes see more movement - so even BoCo will see more spaces open. As well as places like Marymount Manhattan, Hartt, etc. (just naming these because we saw quite a bit of waitlist movement through friends). So if have a particular school you are waiting on - I would check out last year’s threads to understand potential movement. In the end though, look at what you have already and find excitement in that - there are so many amazing programs.
I get it though, it is super hard, when your kid is still holding on to the dream school and there is a still a chance. We were there two years ago. It’s exhausting.

@AlexaMT is it okay if I PM you with some questions about CCU?

Thanks for your thoughts re the waitlists. I can’t imagine holding on until 5/1. That would stink too, because a deposit will have be sent 4/30. Even so, if the right school opens up, I suspect the clouds will clear and she will sail on through. Speaking of clouds, I feel like D and I are both suffering from anxiety right now. I have a little piece of paper in my back pocket with the 11 schools we still haven’t heard from and the 3 WLs. I feel like the next 2 weeks could be very hard.

@mindatwork Always! PMs are helpful because it shows up in my email and I’ll remember to respond haha

@Karamiles the waitlists are so hard. I was so full of anxiety this time last year. My D was getting more & more sad during the wait. My heart goes out to all these terrific MT kids & supportive parents in class of 2023. Seriously the only thing that calmed the anxiety was being in constant prayer, scripture and meditation. The pieces did all come together thankfully for my D off the waitlist she wanted but it was last week of April. She’s so happy now. But the anxiety was & is real. Prayers over Class of 2023. I’ll also add & this is true for so many programs…no one cares once your in a program who was or was not waitlisted. Everyone gets how hard getting a spot is. Here’s to fast movement on waitlists so all can move on & enjoy the last treasured days of Senior year in high school.

And a reminder for those of you with multiple acceptances - PLEASE let the programs you are absolutely not interested in know that you’ll be declining their offer. Please let them know now - or as early as you can. There are wonderful kids waiting for slots and if you know for sure a school is no longer on the list to consider you do everyone a big favor when you communicate that promptly. It’s good karma too

@Kkrazie and @CaMom13 @artreuh @MTmom2017 thanks! Your support was helpful to me today.

Hi @Karamiles. Movement on waitlist varies by school. If you name the schools, someone here may be able to help you. Otherwise you can read through the boards and find a poster who was WL or Accepted at your program and direct the question to them. You can do it privately if you post a few more messages. I think u need 10 or 15 to private message.

@Karasmiles Ditto to what everyone else has said. My D had 5 waitlists last year. Have her email and if possible visit the school if it is high on her list. However, keep in mind if she falls in love and doesn’t get off waitlist it can be hard. There is no such thing as showing too much interest. Hang in there and keep busy!

@Karasmiles be aware that a lot of waitlist movement happens AFTER May 1. This is because like us, the schools don’t know the complete list of who is committing to attend their program until that acceptance date has passed. So you may need to be prepared with a plan of what you are willing to do if your D comes off a waitlist after May 1 after already accepting at another school. It happens. Typically it means losing your deposit at the first school. But some folks are ok with that if their favorite school opens a spot for them.

@vvnstar is absolutely right. Most waitlist movement happens much later. The situation described above is exactly what happened to us. This is early days folks!!! It’s only early March - at this time during our application season we hadn’t heard from many of our schools. BoCo doesn’t admit until April.1. My girl wasn’t releasing anything until she could see the full picture. Also many many schools over accept to hopefully yield the class size they want, waitlists may not be used at all if ever. So kick back, have a glass of wine…I hate to say it, but you’ve got months to go.

@singoutlouise ~ BoCo has changed it up this year! Traditionally they were one of the last to send acceptances. This year I know of several. The is one on the “By School” list already.
