What you said, fellow 2018 survivor @entertainersmom (lol)! I think the Molloy/CAP 21 auditors were very upfront that they wanted to see D’s soul. They went out of their way to ensure that she was relaxed; they were the only school that did so. The results speak for themselves. So have fun out there and let it all hang out!
@EastchesterMom thank you so much for sharing your story! You give me hope!
PS - My Daughter is applying to Molloy/CAP 21. She’s auditioning a week from Saturday.
BAL, BAL @MTMOM17 !! (My superstitious D says you have to say it twice)! Sing loud, dance proud, let it shine!
I think U Arts has a late deadline and auditions going into the spring. They have in years past anyway.
@MTMOM17 my daughter auditions at Cap21 a week from Saturday also!
Hi all. Son has completed several auditions with the ones of most interest being BW, ShenCo, Point Park, and U of Arizona. He has UNCSA this coming weekend. Regarding prescreens, he passed the following and will be doing final auditions for: Penn St and Texas St at Unifieds in Chicago, and FSU on-campus in February. Syracuse was a re-direct to Acting which he graciously declined, and he thinks he will drop his Carnegie audition (MT and Acting) due to high tuition. Break lots of legs to all those auditioning and to their support systems!!
@collegemom2000 - BAL, BAL to your D, too! I hope to see you and @MTMOM17 post good news on the Molloy/CAP21 thread!
How was Point Park audition? That is our first one. Does anyone know when Wagner notifies of acceptance or do they just invite you to audition? How does it work with Wagner?
And @EastchesterMom could you elaborate on your Wagner experience?
@fancytheatrekid - I messaged you.
@fancytheatrekid According to son, Point Park was nice. The auditor was very sweet (Zeva Bardell) and very quiet. He wasn’t sure if that was an indication of how things went.
We just checked the JMU portal out of curiosity and it was updated today. Accademic acceptance for my D but an MT rejection. Man do I wish it was a “wait list”… it is so hard to see that rejection even though we KNOW how competitive this major is. I just would have loved to not have disheartening news so close to our busy audition season. Time to keep the faith and “just keep swimming” though, right friends?
@fancytheaterkid I’m going to echo Beachymom… the PP audition was okay. If on campus, they make you dance first.
@fancytheaterkid My D did not dance first at PPU. She did her songs and monologues first, then the dance call. She said the moves were not overly complicated but the dance was fast. She really had to move - but the music was fun. She said the auditors were friendly, made her feel comfortable, and asked her to sing “something else in her book.” There was one particularly superb dancer in her call; the auditors asked her to stay and sing again.
@fancytheatrekid when did your daughter audition? Hopefully they changed the format after the first audition date.
Although my data is 4 years old - my recollection is that PPU split the audition group - and about half danced first and did songs/monos second - and the other half did songs/monos first and danced second. Our year, my D danced first. She thought that would be terrible - but in the end it wasn’t so bad. Go in your audition clothes - they did give her time to change to dance clothes. Again - my experience is from 4 years ago - but may explain why some are reporting Dance call first - and others Dance call second.
Regional PPU audition in November. Upon arrival kids were split into 3 groups (MT, acting, dance) and auditions began concurrently. MTs danced first (during which there was a 15 min parent Q&A, no canned overview or slide show). A PPU alum from a National Broadway Tour led the dance call. Same feedback as @artskids above - fun and fast. Afterward, D performed her rep in order of assigned number - said she wasn’t “feeling it” when asked about the room vibe. Had no feedback or interaction with auditors.
Students received a number at check in, which determined the order of act/song 5 min slot after group dance. Even though we arrived early, we were there until 3:30pm (number was high 40s). Of course she didn’t eat breakfast …arrrggghh. While waiting, Parents and kids just milled around the lobby or wandered outside. Because this was borrowed roadshow space, they didn’t have comfy chairs so bring a foam pillow if you expect to hang out in studio or school hallways for >6 hrs.
You’ve heard back from JMU? We got our academic acceptance, but it still has not been updated for musical theatre. Hoping to hear back soon though! @savedrama4momma
My S is auditioning Pace Friday. Any idea how their audition is run?
yes- @4llth4tj4zz The portal updated today- at the top it said “admitted” for the academic portion and gives you the option to accept or decline. Underneath that part it had the info about the musical theatre department and it says decision “not admitted”- when you click on that there is a letter from the department that she was not accepted for their MT program. Hope you get better news!
