Class of 2023 Decisions

How do you get to use bright futures money after obtaining a bachelors?

I know Florida prepaid will be paid out at the bachelors rate per credit hour. But if you didn’t pay for the local fees plan or tuition differential plan it is only $117 per credit hour this year (could be more by the time it is used).

@Spotty99 Yes, I have noticed that too. I also have 100% BF and Prepaid, but was denied. I’m fine with going to FSU though (accepted with Freshman Scholarship).

Okay so I got in, but I got the pace program. How come people with higher scores and gpas didn’t get into that and I did?

@nicvic2 congrats on your offer. PaCE has a lot of different majors but not everything. Major doesn’t come into play for UF campus admission but is does for PaCE. That can make a difference in offers.

I got in!

Out of state
ACT: 32
GPA(from my school, not the UF gpa): 3.78/4.0 UW, 4.05 W
5 AP Classes
Sports, community service, feminism and coding club, 2 jobs.
I think the essay makes a huge difference. I kinda went a unique route.
Congrats to everyone else who got in!

@Melissa96 do you happen to know the particulars of transfer student dorm opportunites

The process won’t change. The admission process is not a+b=c.

You also need to look at if your kid is the creme of the crop at their own high school, b/c that is who you are really competing against. “Elite” schools want/take the top 10% of your kid’s high school.

Elite schools also cap the # of students they will take from a particular school which make ist brutal if your kid attends an uber-competitve high school or magnet-type. Also, don’t forget that hooks help (1st gen, URM, etc)

Top 10% may not make the cut either.

@CV6780 The HS/AA students have been treated like freshman with regards to housing and how long the second decision takes.

@Melissa96 thank you for being so helpful.

@Gator88NE , thank you! Yes, he wants to do Chemical E. USF offered 5k presidential, 2k Honors, 5k National Hispanic Scholars, he also has 10k from L4L, BF and Florida pre paid. … Also, he has some medical conditions that make Tampa a better choice regarding medical facilities. We just always thought he would be going to UF. We’re going to a USF tour in two weeks, he will probably make his desicion after that.

Also, his UF admissions letter didn’t say anything about honors college…

All the scholarship figures are per year.

I just got accepted into UF for the mechanical engineering program. The offer is still conditional, so I still have to get good grades.
I applied with an IB score of 33 and predicted as 36 (both on 42) and a SAT of 1350 math 700 and English 650 not sure how to calculate GPA from my IB score, EC’s were pretty decent, a bit of community service, MUN and a bit of sports during my 9th and 10th.
I feel my essay was pretty good tho. But anyway this is huge for me cuz UF was my first choice an. Congrats to everyone who got in.
By the way, what does their conditional offer mean, because they haven’t specified a certain grade I have to attain? And can someone approximate my gpa unweighted and weighted?

Sorry to head your son wasn’t accepted, but he has some great options!

UF uses a holistic admissions process to build a well rounded class. They are looking for musicians, scientists, mathematicians, teachers, etc etc. While some of the denials are baffling from a numbers perspective, they are looking at your ECs to help determine how you would shape the incoming class. A denial usually means “not unique” or already have admitted several similar people. It’s sad either way. They are also accepted more out of state students in the hope of going from the #8 public university to the #5.

does anyone know if there is a facebook group for admitted students ?

@spotty99 Bright futures will pay out undergraduate rate for master’s for one semester as long as done during scholarship award length, if you have credits left over. So it will pay $212 of graduate program per credit hour for first semester and if you have left over prepaid you can use that too but only pays what it would pay per credit hour at undergraduate rate.

Are post-11/01 admissions for Florida rolling or do they all come March 31st?

does anyone know if you receive rejection letter from honors? or do you just get told if you get in?

@garamxmasala I’m not sure, since they said it was based on availability. I’d assume you get results a little bit later, but I don’t know how much later since they still have to deal with appeals and the such. That might be a good question to ask the admissions office when they’re open again.

My daughter is an OOS applicant. She was denied. She’s a top student in a reputable Nationally Ranked Math and Science Magnet Program. All Courses are Honors and APS. On her denial letter there is a mention of transferring in Spring 2020 to the UF Online program with Upper Division coursework. My daughter is not a dually enrolled student. Did anyone else have this language in their denial letter? I’m confused. I think we need to call Admissions on Monday. Any ideas about the Spring 2020 details?
